  1. Just curious. My just turned 7 year old did. We are starting week 16 in MFW Learning God's Story. He is reading really well (I think). He was a little late in learning, has had some speech problems that hindered him quite a bit. His speech is much better and now his reading is taking off! He has almost no trouble with his daily lessons and often wants more (I don't do more than a lesson a day - I just have him read library books to me for extra practice). I don't hear of people using MFW LGS much so I'm just curious of anyone here is using it or has used it, and did it teach your child to read? I have another son just turned five using MFW Kindergarten, and he is also learning to blend CVC words and is doing well.

  2. I got pregnant with my oldest in high school. My dad made me get my GED. I got married to the father of the baby, who was out of high school, and he immediately got a job working with the pipeline. He started out at the bottom as a laborer making $1200-$1500 a week. He has moved up to foreman now (15 years later) making considerably more. He always wanted me to be a stay at home mom, and homeschooling just came naturally. I did plan to go to college at first, took my ACT four weeks before giving birth, and made a 27. I am fairly intelligent, made great grades in high school but struggled with algebra (still do). I'm self educating myself now so I'll be better prepared to help my kids as they start high school. Sometimes I'm really embarrassed to have a GED, like it doesn't make me look smart enough to homeschool my own kids....

  3. I tried to use the entire grade level with my two oldest and it was way too much. They loved the DVDs at first, but grew to hate them. They were so long and there was so much busy work. The teachers would drone on and on...and you can't really skip ahead because you'll miss too much. We quit after a few months.

  4. I have also never been lectured by a dentist. We move around a slot because of my husband's job so we see a a lot of dentists. My kids have all had cavities and we are adamant about brushing twice daily, etc. My seven year old had two fillings done last October that got abscessed in April. He had to have two molars removed and a space maintainer pit in. That was of course the dentist's fault for not sealing the cavity properly. I still hate it! Even when my kids have cavities the dentists always comment on how clean their teeth are, the good hygiene they have, etc. I felt bad about my five year old getting a filling and the dentist said "We see children with very bad teeth. This cavity is nothing. Kids will get cavities." Put me at ease and made me feel much better.

  5. I got a full set at our library for $20. They are the 2005 edition but were never used! My kids use them all the time. I think it's important to know how to find information without a phone or computer or internet access. I have them look stuff up all the time.

  6. I would say he is not behind at all. My son was 7 in June. He still has a "robot" voice and is nowhere near chapter books. He reads early and easy readers. I do not consider him behind at all. Some kids are really great readers. It comes naturally to some and not so naturally to others. My older three were natural readers, reading books way above grade level. This one is not above grade level, but steady progress and hard work make me happy.

  7. My kids have way too many clothes because I love shopping!! So I'm not even going to attempt to put numbers down. My teenager daughter does need new jeans though...and my 12 year old son always needs jeans because he gets holes in the knees all the time.

  8. Sounds like Lyme disease to me. The joint pain is a classic symptom. Lyme can affect every single system in your body. The brain fog and memory loss is also a red flag - neurological symptoms. Lyme can present itself as so many diseases, that it is way too often misdiagnosed. I would definitely get a Lyme disease test first to rule it out. It takes three days to week to come back, but if you're in a high risk area they could go ahead and start your antibiotics while you're waiting for results.

  9. My 7th grader wants to learn astronomy this year. One thing I am going to get is a telescope, but I am so lost! I've looked at reviews and stuff, but I don't know what all the technicalities mean!! Please help me!

I'm hoping between $50-100, but I'm willing to go higher. I do want one that packs well, because we travel with my husband's job all over the country, moving several times a year. Not a huge one, but one that he will be able to really see some neat things. Thanks in advance!

  10. Actually, WHEN you sleep is just as important as how long you sleep.

I don't let my teens stay up later than 10 during the week, and 11 on weekends. I wake them up at 7 during the week and by 9 on weekends. I don't want them getting into the terrible habit of loving sleep, sleeping all day, etc. They pretty much wake up on their own now that their body is in a rhythmetic cycle. I also go to sleep by 9 or 10 and wake up at 5-5:30 every single day.

  11. I've had a crown for several months, and it feels like it's going to fall out when I chew on it. I went to the dentist last week, and he assured me it's tight and not going to fall out. He said that sometimes your gums try to "reject" the foreign object (the crown), but that it should get better. Gum sensitivity is normal for up to a year after a crown. Pain, no, but sensitivity, yes. It also takes some getting used to to be able to eat on it.

  12. No one should be making fun of you or picking on you. However, you can expect to have your views challenged here. I've learned a lot here in the past several years. I've changed my mind on some topics and haven't budged a bit on others. ;) I don't mind the debate, because if I am right, my views will stand up to scrutiny. If I am wrong, on the other hand, I want to know it!

I admire you for being kind and non-confrontational. I don't think you're unintelligent. The vast majority of Young Earth creationists I know are *highly* intelligent. As a conservative Christian and Old Earth creationist I think they're wrong--but I don't think they're stupid. :)

Thank you. My 9 year old daughter is named Mercie. ☺ï¸
