  1. That was an interesting article. Thanks for posting it.
  2. We're in NW Atl & have over 3" here & it's still snowing! Love it.
  3. Agreeing with a subscription to PC Gamer. And the Steam card (or cards). What games does he watch or play on his PC? (You don't have to answer, but may want to look into whatever store is associated with the game or games he likes. For example, check out the Valve store if he likes Counterstrike, Dota, or others.) Etsy is another good place to do a search for items based on his favorite PC games. A couple of years ago, I got my ds some etched glasses (drinking glasses) that had figures from Team Fortress on them. They're nice, have held up well going through the dishwasher every day, & it's something normal he uses but wasn't expecting. (I got him pint glasses from this vendor with the TF2 figures on them.) From a different vendor, I got a cool LED light with the Overwatch logo for his desk -- another fun thing that he wasn't expecting but enjoys having.
  4. Oh, and one more I thought of -- non-fiction: Pink Boots and a Machete. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1426207212/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1512561553&sr=8-1
  5. Does she like movies? Cinemaps. (I saw it listed on NPR's best of 2017 books....) A very cool & beautiful one I read last year: The Singing Bones. I haven't read it, but I think this one has no words: The Arrival. If she has ever owned a crappy car, this one is hilarious. Crap Cars. (We gave a copy to a friend who is a car nut. My favorite page was the one about the Suzuki Samurai.) Not so much illustrated as a well-done faux Ikea catalog which is a horror story. Horrorstör. I think my favorite choice might be one I bought my dd a few years ago: Goblinproofing One's Chicken Coop: And Other Practical Advice In Our Campaign Against The Fairy Kingdom. (I mean, that's just a book that cries out to be read!) Or How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack: Defend Yourself When the Lawn Warriors Strike (And They Will). How can you decide on just one?!? There are so many great "picture" books out there!
  6. The cutest picture book I've seen lately is There's a Bear on My Chair. Maybe she'd like the illustrated (by Lauren Child) version of Pippi Longstocking? What about a completely inappropriate version of a kid's book but for adults? A list here or here. I've heard that Ms. Marvel is pretty awesome, though I haven't read it (yet).
  7. These little Om figurines are adorable. My dd found them about a year ago when she asked for a couple. My dc got me Cheleb & he sits on my desk & makes me smile every time I see him. Dd has more on her list for Christmas this year. (I may have to add Tyl -- the owl one -- on my list this year.) For my ds, a huge fan of the Baby Driver movie, a t-shirt. And, also for ds, a hot sauce challenge box (from Target -- it's in the holiday food/gift section). ETA: Superfight card game
  8. The Knight and the Dragon by Tomie dePaola The customer review by Briana McCarthy gives the overview of the "expected" roles vs. how this story turns out...
  9. I saw Gator deliveries last year. Around here, UPS trucks have been being hijacked when leaving the distribution facilities. That may be another reason that it's hard to find enough drivers -- it may not be a very safe job.
  10. I am so glad to hear of happiness for all of you, Lizzie. My heart is happy for you. Your photos are beautiful.
  11. Maybe look in the party section at Party City (or similar) for clackers (so they can use them when cheering on teammates) or mini-pom-pom type things? Squeeze/stress balls to keep themselves busy while waiting? Water or gatorade bottles with a cute personalized label taped over the regular label? Holiday or winter hair/pin/necklace/light-up accessory like you could find at a dollar store?
  12. Seconding Terry Pratchett (esp. Wee Free Men). How about a non-fiction book? Pink Boots and a Machete by Mireya Mayor. Inspiring, funny, & entertaining. It's a fun book.
  13. So much heartbreak... http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-42122809 Eta: Updated news link and title.
  14. Wow. I hope this all reminds us to be better people.
