  1. I know this is a terribly blurry photo. Something I heard today -- ds gaming online with his friends -- lots of talking, laughing, clicking of keyboard keys, etc... I was going to post this one yesterday (a favorite thing), kind of as a joke, but not really. My dishwasher. My theory is that if something can't go into the dishwasher or washing machine, I probably don't want to own it. Lol. It could also go for something I've heard today; even though it's incredibly quiet, it's running now & I can hear it.
  2. Ah, sadly, none of the cats in those photos are still with us. (The white cat in my earlier photo & the orange cat, along with another one of our cats passed away in 2013 -- two of them on the same day. The black cat & the black & white cat, along with another one of our cats, passed away last year -- two of them in the same week. Rough times. I still miss all of them so much. Each of them had such a great personality.) At this point, we have four cats & they are great too. All relatively young-ish & healthy for the most part. Knock on wood. They don't get along as well as the ones in the photos I posted & there are a few scraps going on now & then. But, our Siamese loves, loves, loves our flame point boy -- she has eyes only for him. She's always wanting to hug up on him. He mostly looks mildly irritated when she's snuggling him but generally he goes with it.
  3. Hugs to you guys. What a tragedy & a loss at an early age. I'm sorry to hear it.
  4. He's gorgeous. I love black cats!
  5. Is it easy to make? That's my fave Chinese dish too. (I'm vegetarian.) Luckily, one of the local Chinese restaurants here makes a great version. A different local place has vegetarian egg rolls, which I love because egg rolls almost always have meat in them. It's a treat to get those once in awhile.
  6. Various ones.... Batman checking on the cat (according to ds when he was little & set this up; the cat never even woke up): The cat put himself to bed: Using the other cat as a stool... and... Payback time!
  7. Some new to me (because I recently read A Moment in the Sun -- a historical fiction book based on lots of actual history)... there has been one successful coup d'etat on US soil, which happened in Wilmington, NC, in 1898 the Philippine-American War (1899 to 1902). the bicycle corps first tested out by the 25th United States Infantry (an African-American regiment).
  8. This is probably the best I can get for today's prompt, lol... (My friend's dog while I was watching her kids [and dog] today.)
  9. I was going to do kitty feet too, but since we have some already posted, I looked around for a different idea. The "feet" on our fruit bowl:
  10. Your book pile looks like one my 20yo dd would have! (In fact, she owns The Far Traveler + about a million horse-related books.)
  11. Could you put your tv over the fireplace? Maybe center the sofa in front of the fireplace, leaving plenty of space behind it (or in front of it) for wheelchair access. Then, put the chair on the perpendicular to the sofa near the 4 x 6 window, facing the far end of the room with the sliding door. I would probably put the Ikea shelf centered on the 14' wall behind the chair. (This is assuming you could get the tv over the fireplace.)
  12. This is a fun prompt! What I'm currently reading: What I just finished reading in the past couple of days. The one on the bottom is one I started in May, lol. In my current "I might (or might not) read these soon since they will be due in a few weeks" pile.... (The guide to August Wilson's plays is one I started when I read Gem of the Ocean; I am waiting for the next few plays to come in from my library holds list & will read the corresponding sections as I read each play.) Fwiw, I fall strongly into the camp of "I don't finish a book if I don't like it".
  13. I use chalk markers to label stuff in the fridge & freezer...
  14. Yeah, that is what I was thinking after I posted. That babbling is more what I have heard. I guess it's a babbling brook that was bubbling.... ?
  15. Your poor mom! This was at Mt. Ranier. I think that area is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. I put "bubbling" brook, but I am wondering if people call them "bubbling" or "babbling". (I've heard both.)
  16. Same here. I have mostly lived in the south & would say it is common, especially in smaller to medium-sized areas. These days, though, I live in a large urban/suburban area & rarely see it. We saw one a few weeks ago & I had to explain to my teen what to do in those instances. I think a lot of people do not know what to do in such situations (not just teens but also adults). I normally pull over & wait. However, the one the other week was on a large, multi-lane, divided road. Opposite side traffic (the side I was on) was not stopping, so I slowed a bit but did keep moving. Here, if you stopped (esp. on the opposite side of a divided road), you are likely to be creamed at high speed in a rear-end collision. Had I been on the same side, I would have pulled over (with the assumption being that other traffic behind me would have stopped also). When you live where people drive aggressively & quickly, I think you have to balance respect for the procession with common sense, esp. when there are not clear laws on the books or if there are not enough police to actually block major intersections (of which there are many around here). I also think that sometimes people who are participating in the procession do not always know what to do, which also leads to confusion. I have seen later drivers stop at red lights, not knowing they were allowed to continue through (when police were not posted at the intersection), which then leads to other cars merging in, & then makes it harder to tell where the procession starts & ends, etc. I think funeral homes or whoever is coordinating should make sure the drivers know the "rules" for being in the procession, perhaps telling cars as they are lining up getting ready to leave. ETA: It's a very nice tradition. But it can be a dangerous one when not everyone knows the "rules". And, in today's world & in congested/high-traffic areas, I think the assumption should/could be that quite a few people don't know the "rules". I don't get the honking or gesturing at people who "mess up". I would assume the person doesn't mean disrespect, just that the person isn't familiar with the traditions.
  17. Loowit, I am sorry to hear about your granddad. Hugs to you.
  18. Happy Belated Birthday, Rachel! ?
  19. My friend's new car arrived today. She is so excited!
  20. My great-grandmother's "Sunday" shoes for summer. They do fit me & I used to be quite the shoe-aholic years ago -- I love having these. Prior to kids (in my 20s), I wore them with some great vintage dresses I had. The shoes fit a little more snugly on me these days (as in ouch!) but I am modeling them for the photo. I never knew my great-grandmother but I do love her taste in shoes!
  21. My pantry always seems to be a jumble & I would like to clean it out & better organize it. For those of you who are good at doing these things &/or have reorganized your pantry & love it, please share any tips, ideas, or thoughts. What do you love about your pantry? What makes your pantry "work" for you? What do you keep in there? What do you *not* keep in there? My pantry is long & narrow with four shelves that are approx. 11 inches deep. Lighting is bad where the pantry is located. It has two folding, louvered doors, so no way to use the back of the doors for storage. In addition to people food, I also (currently) store some small appliances there, placemats, cat food. On the floor under the shelves, I have two large bins -- one holds paper towel rolls, the other holds stuff I don't use too often (like disposable plates, cutlery, & some party decorations). I don't have loads of kitchen storage so I don't really have other (convenient) places to relocate some of this stuff. Fwiw, I'm not a cook (but am trying to slowly remedy that). I would like to make it workable & cheap (i.e., not have to go out & buy a bunch of organizers or anything). Yeah, I would love to have all glass jars that are nicely labeled & everything, but that's not in my budget right now. So, I would love creative ideas. Yes, I have "organized pantry" envy! Thanks! P.S. (I am too embarrassed to share a pic right now. ?)
  22. I'm in awe of everyone's photos. The beauty. The creativity. The fun. Thank you all. And if I don't "like" your photo, please know I do like it very much. I keep running out of likes! What a wonderful thread.
