  1. It's been a few years. How did this resource work out for you? Or did you find any other solutions that you would recommend instead?
  2. Has anyone tried these lesson plans written by Catholic Heritage Curricula? https://www.chcweb.com/catalog/category8_321/EarthScienceGodsWorld,OurHomeDailyLessonPlans/product_info.html Or did you find the lesson plans included in the Digital Resources to be sufficient? Or did you come up with your own system that you like better? Would love to hear what's working, or what didn't work, for you. Thanks!
  3. Thank you so much for sharing this! That was certainly a labor of love on your part, and very generous of you to share. I am curious: did you incorporate/schedule the videos that are linked in the free resources from Novare? Or are your videos all in addition to what they listed? (I edited this post because I found a better link to the videos). Here is what I'm referring to: https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?cid=698BD5FB30473AFB&authKey=!AODVtO1FFFkHTdc&resid=698BD5FB30473AFB!4152&ithint=.pdf&open=true&app=WordPdf
  4. HomeAgain, Thanks for your reply! I have been trying to compare a bit between SkedTrack and Unschool Portfolio, so I appreciate that you have experience with SkedTrack! I agree, I don't particularly like how vague the UP website is. We aren't completely unschoolers, but we do take frequent "delight-directed" rabbit trails and opportunities. Do you feel like it is easy to enter those random, one-off events into SkedTrack? That is the one thing that draws me in with the UP idea - that it's actually created for people who want to log things that don't fit neatly into the lesson plan. I'm thinking I might try out SkedTrack and see how it goes for those things. Would love to hear more about what you like/don't like about SkedTrack.
  5. Any experience with or reviews about this? https://www.unschoolportfolio.com/
  6. Next year, I will have: 5th gr, 3rd gr, and P-K. History has been very hit and miss in our house up until now. With the 5th grader, I would like to make it more of a priority. I am not so much concerned with mastery; just a basic understanding and whetted appetite for the subject. The 3rd grader will join us and the Pr-K will do what he pleases. :) I would love to hear thoughts about pros and cons of these two systems, especially if you have used them both and can help me with how they are similar/different: Story of the World + Activity Book Remember the Days from Biblioplan + the extras (Discussion Guide, Family Guide, Cool Histories, etc) (I don't mind not starting with Ancients, since the Remember the Days for Ancients is not yet ready.) Thanks in advance! Stacey
  7. We are not in 5th grade yet, but we have used MM for 1-3rd with a child who struggles in Math (child is 4th gr age but needed to take things more slowly). We do something very similar to what BusyMom5 does. This is also similar to what Maria Miller suggests in the introductions to the tougher chapters - to split math time up and not spend the whole chunk of time on the tough subject. It has really helped us! I often use a "timer" approach - do 30 minutes from an easy section like measurement (as long as there aren't any concepts required that we haven't yet learned) and 30 minutes from the tough section. Adjust the time spent on the tough section as needed (maybe 15 minutes is all she can take!) Also, I'd encourage you to write to Maria! I have emailed her several times when we hit a roadblock, and she always has helpful suggestions. This is one reason I am a huge fan of MM - we get access to a seasoned math teacher/tutor who wants to see our children succeed. :)
  8. Jesus Storybook Bible is our favorite read-aloud. Bible Road Trip is our favorite way to study the Word in context at a child-appropriate level. The curriculum outline for Bible Road Trip is free, but you can purchase a download so that you don't have to download each week individually. Also, it requires that you purchase resources in order to use the curriculum as it has been written. My kids have stayed engaged and learned quite a bit. I love that they are learning to see that each book and story is a connected part of the whole story about God. One note: it can be quite time-intensive if used as written. I set aside 20-30 min of our day for Bible, and we get through whatever we get through in the plan, and pick up again the next day. Sometimes we get through a week's worth of Bible Road Trip in a week, but often, it takes us closer to two. That's ok with me! :) https://www.thinkingkidsblog.org/bible-road-trip-frequently-asked-questions/
  9. Have you looked at Wayfarer's History? They have samples on their website. I haven't used it or TOG, but last year I studied the samples from both companies. It may be worth looking into. http://barefootmeandering.com/site/wayfarers/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
