  1. That's a lot of languages! Try this website - http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/e/index.html - it has a language learning guide (including estimated study hours to basic fluency) and a good forum. You could also try All Japanese All the Time. Its an immersion method for any language (not just Japanese) that can be done without leaving the country :) ! Start with the "Table of Contents" (at the top of the page). For French, have her do some reading in French, possibly with a French Audio-Book so she can hear and see the language. Maybe a French email or pen-pal? You could try having her listen to the French FSI courses. (They cover several languages and are public domain, created by the US government for training diplomats. They are being made available slowly at http://www.fsi-language-courses.com/). They don't slow down the language so she can test her listening comprehension and there is a text so you can preview what she will be learning. It's not (to me at least) a user-friendly course, so I am putting it off until I hit the intermediate level. How many she does at the same time depends on how much time she has, but continueing her Latin and French while starting a 3rd language would probably work. After she has the basics of the 3rd language she could start another one. The good news is she is old enough for adult level material, which gives you a lot more options. I love languages, currently I'm working on Ancient Greek and Spanish! Best of luck to your daughter. Amy
  2. My DH works graveyard (10:30p to 8a), Th - Sat. So we do school 4 days a week in the morning on Wed. (DH is gone to a meeting) to Sat., since he sleeps during the day. If we need an extra day we do that Sunday morning. It seems weird to do school on the "weekends", but its working. Tuesday is normally our goof-off day. Do whatever works - the beauty of homeschooling is flexibility!
  3. :lurk5: Great poll! I'll be choosing one of these soon, even though I'm leaning toward ETC.
  4. Wow there are a lot of great ideas! I usually only allow non-school days and I just lock the computer screens when I'm tired of them playing! They eventually go outside or go find their legos. If they bug me to much I usually think of something for them to do. If I genuinely need to do something I'll let them play - I try to keep it semi-educational. I like the idea of giving coupons for time AND being able to take them away - that might work well around here. I've so far avoided having a video game machine in the house, but DH wants a PS2, as well as DS1, so I'll lose that one eventually. :001_huh:
  5. How long does she have between the first draft and having to revise? In my writing I let the paper sit for several days if possible. That way what I "thought" I said is faded, and I can be more objective. I would let her Dad correct it if she responds better to him. When I was homeschooled my Dad corrected my writing for the same reason, even though my Mom did everything else.
  6. I just started doing this - thanks for the idea! The oldest is Red, middle son is blue and youngest in green. I started out with toothbrushes and water bottles, I'll pick up towels and school supplies too.
