Can anyone compare Spelling Wisdom and Simply Spelling?
Mom to 3+1 replied to Mom to 3+1's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks for pointing out that SS had "rules" not just dictation. I would like to use it loosly with SWR, so it may be a good fit. I think I will buy 3rd grade and look more closely. Laura -

more ideas. I am really excited about the castle out of the card board boxes, and I am sure the stained glass cookies will be a hit. Salt Maps are always fun, I need a better receip for cookie dough maps, last year Italy became a big blob! LOL. I would love to hear more, any thoughts on any of the units, I hope to do them all this year and summer is my big planning time. Thanks, Laura -
what are your essentials for your school room?
Mom to 3+1 replied to Mom to 3+1's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I think I have most of the suggestions, just need to pull it altogether and get a little more organized! Laura -
I tried last year and found that Singapore introduced so much more so much earlier, I was skipping most of the book. For expamle, my 3 were doing MUS Beta and Singapore 2a, but Singapore starts multiplication and then division halfway through the book, so were skipping around. I love the way Steve "teaches" math, but my kids were bored with the redundance of the workbook pages... any thoughts? Laura

I am blessed to have a separate school room option, outside of my house. the problem I found last year, other then it is a little small for 4 students, is that almost eveyday I needed something in the house, a grownup dictionary, another version of the bible, etc. what do you find are your essentials for your school room to function smoothly? any and all thoughts welcome. Laura

Last yr was our 1st hs - I feel like I kept everything - my kiddos were in 2nd and kinder - what do you keep? papers, workbooks, art projects? I am thinking no workbooks, but then I feel guilty, like someday I might want to reflect back on 2nd grade math or something. thanks for your thoughts. Laura

I like how it brakes the lesson into 4 parts. days 1-3 you practice 1 letter, upper and lower and 3 words. on day 4 you write a scripture verse, using the words you practiced thru the week. At the back of the book are pages to write the verses on, with fun pictures the kids get to color when they are done. I only wish they had a cursive with wider lines, these are wide enough for my 2nd graders, but I want to teach my kinder this year, 1 st next year, and I think that he will really need wider lines.

Let's see if I can help... I too have a new computer with Vista and I have spent hours trying to get my schedule from word or excel into my blog - I finally successfully scanned it in the other day - here's what I did. I don't know computer language, so I hope you can follow me. In the place where all of the programs are listed, I found one called "Paint" in one of the drop downs there I found somehting like "scan/?" I clicked on that. It pulled up my printer/scanner, I said yes and it scanned my printed schedule into the computer and put it with all of my pictures. I went to my pictures and double clicked on it and "blooged" it from there. I hope this helps and I hope that you can understand me. I know the frustration of not being able to do something that it appears everyone else can do with great ease! Good Luck!:001_smile:
