  1. Thank you, Maria and KellieK. How sweet of you to reply!! I look forward to watching/reading the links.
  2. Thank you so much--Lee Queen, Clear Creek, and Winter--for replying!!
  3. I watched an interview of Andrew Kern speaking about literature and the 5 questions to ask when discussing literature with our kids. Now that the video has been removed, would anyone happen to have taken notes on those questions? They had to do with virtue, such as "What did the character do?" "Should he/she have done that?" Etc.
  4. So...now that this video has become "private," did anyone happen to take notes on the "5 questions" relating to virtue, such as "What should he/she have done, etc.?
  5. Trying to find an NT forum/discussion board. Does anyone have any favorite websites for this?
  6. Yikes! I am so sorry I submitted this post THREE TIMES!! The page wouldn't load after I hit submit, so I didn't think it was working. Does anyone know how to delete posts?
  7. Does anyone have a dentist in this area whom you trust? One who is open to holistic or alternative methods/treatments would be particular helpful.

  9. Anyone have a dentist whom you love/trust in this area? One who would be open to holistic/natural treatments would be particularly helpful!!
  10. Anyone have a favorite place to purchase chemicals and other chemistry supplies? Is an online store generally going to have the best prices? It would be great if there were some sort of lending library out there!
  11. Oops, I feel silly now. I realize you weren't talking to me.
  12. Thanks for asking, Aimee!! I'm leaning toward the CAT test (since it's shorter than the ITBS) and going to a library where they offer free proctoring (Ankeny). I think I'll just give up on the portfolio evaluator idea since I'm having trouble finding one. Honestly, does no one in Iowa do this option?? Everyone I've met picks the supervising teacher option. I was given a list of names from the Niche, emailed all of the people, got no response from any of them. I'm a little bit chicken to just phone people I don't know. :( So I'll just have to make sure I'm ordering the right CAT test. :) Have a great day!
  13. Oh no!! Thanks for the head's up, Elizabeth. Wish I hadn't already sent that email to her....
  14. Thanks, Perry, for your replies! I've gone through the above list before, and couldn't tell if the CAT/5 was the same as the CAT (CAT/6), so I went ahead and requested permission for it from the Dept. of Education, so we'll see how that turns out.
  15. Does anyone know if the CAT/5 test is accepted here in Iowa? I was going to do the portfolio evaluator option (just for this year), but can't find anyone....so I'm just wanting a year off from the ITBS (takes so much time from our school day!), and the CAT/5 is pretty minimal as far as time commitment....
  16. I live in Iowa. We've always done the ITBS, but this year I thought I'd just try the portfolio option for once. Well, so far I've been unable to find anyone to be an evaluator, and we did not dual enroll, so I'm going to have to pay for testing. I've heard that the public library will sometimes proctor tests, and--this will sound lazy--but I'd like to find the shortest test possible, since hopefully it will be cheaper, take less time out of our school day, be easier on the kids just for this year, etc., etc. The ITBS is such a HUGE chunk of time!! Any advice?
  17. Forgot to tell everyone thank you (who kindly responded). You are very helpful!! Happi duck--thank you so much for the link. Looks like a great place for me to start learning, too!
