  1. Here's one that we've used: http://www.dipity.com/ From their site: Dipity is a free digital timeline website. Our mission is to organize the web's content by date and time. Users can create, share, embed and collaborate on interactive, visually engaging timelines that integrate video, audio, images, text, links, social media, location and timestamps.
  2. Hi Everyone, I'm a long time board user, but haven't posted much in years. When the boards switched over from the old format I saw it as my opportunity to get more school work done and less socializing! But here I am to post about the NYT. After a bit of talking with the New York Times, I was finally able to secure an educator's discount. Previously they had been unable to provide a discounted rate. For me anyway. So in case any of you would like to get their discount (and have had trouble) I wanted to post here about how I acquired my subscription: 1) Fax a copy of your students' ID cards to 563-285-2815. If you don't have cards, you can make them up or obtain free ones from the Homeschool Buyers Coop. (I also noted on this one-page fax my name, address, and wrote "for homeschool/educator discount") You must do this step first. 2) After you've faxed your proof, call 800-698-4637 and ask for the Account Resolutions department. 3) Tell them you are a homeschooler that has faxed in the required ID and would like to sign up for an educator's discount. If you have any trouble with the agent not being aware of homeschoolers getting discounts, you can then ask for Trudy - who was very kind and receptive to the idea of homeschoolers getting discounts. Since every SAT prep class we've been a part of has recommended that my children read at least one NYT article a day, I'm very thankful for this discount. I hear that the NYT is the best subscription for SAT quality vocabulary, as well as the best for providing excellent, well-written articles on current events. Hope this helps someone. We are already enjoying our online access as well as the NYT Learning Network (the latter should be free to everyone regardless of whether you have any subscription). Oh, and FYI, I went with the print edition to be sent to my home on Saturdays and Sundays (for $3.60/wk) which gives me access to the NYT online for Monday-Sunday (and access to their app). The Sunday edition is especially good in print vs. online. HTH, Michele P.S. Hi to everyone from the old days! Who's still around?
  3. I wonder about their 2,000 daily users. My guess is that there are currently 2,000 users of the system in total. Can they distinguish between the total users and "daily users"? Doubt it.
  4. Along those same lines, if you visit the HEDUA website you will see those companies who advertise with them. Contacting them would also be a good idea. If I were a company advertising with an organization who is cheating customers, I'd want to know. For anyone holding out to use this software - consider what will happen when your high school junior is getting ready to apply to colleges and the MWPD software system crashes, or goes out of business, or whatEVER. Given their poor performance in the early stages of development, given their lack of concern for informing their customers, and given their views on what is gracious and tolerable to them, would you want to trust your child's transcripts and all of his/her school planning information on their server with no guarantee of retrieval should there be a problem? This is a system burdened with problems from the start, and offered to you by a company who isn't being forthright or honest. Don't have high expectations that they'll help you when you really need it at application time. As of now, there is no way to back up your hard input work and the years of school data you will accumulate. Storing in MWPD's cloud and relying upon them for information retrieval when you really need it does not, at this time, seem wise to me. If planning with MWPD is troublesome now, imagine what will happen should they encounter any difficulties down the road.
  5. https://www.facebook.com/groups/mywellplanneddayreviews/ I just posted a review in My Well Planned Day Reviews on Facebook. I hope that others will do the same so people can make an informed decision before purchasing this software. Use THIS link to see BBB ratings and file one if you feel led to do so. Use THIS link to see the FTC page. Please take the time to speak up so others can benefit from your good and bad experiences with HEDUA and MWPD. In case my above links don't work: http://www.bbb.org/nashville/business-reviews/computer-software-publishers-and-developers/home-educating-family-association-in-nashville-tn-37076337 https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#&panel1-1
  6. Here's a link to a MWPD reviews page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/mywellplanneddayreviews Here you'll find an opportunity for people to share and read reviews, suggestions, helpful tips, and to learn about other relevant issues (good or bad) with the public. Future subscribers and current customers alike will benefit from honest reviews and helpful insights. ~ Michele ~
  7. Here's a brand new place to share reviews for the My Well Planned Day software. https://www.facebook.com/groups/mywellplanneddayreviews/
  8. I now see the same issues happened years ago with the paper planner: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/105442-help-we-need-day-planners/?p=1000837 http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/423377-refund-from-my-well-planned-day/ And here's a review that sums it all up (scroll down a bit to sundrop474's comment) : http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/448326-well-planned-day-software-skedtrack-or-some-other-planner/?hl=%2Bwell+%2Bplanned+%2Bday+%2Bsoftware+%2Bskedtrack&do=findComment&comment=4973047 And here's a negative review: http://teaching7.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-negative-review-of-my-well-planned.html
  9. Dawn, the WPD software never left its Beta stage from its first release over a year ago. The company has been promising improvement for more than 12 months, but none have occurred as of yet. HEDUA is silent when it comes to information regarding the release of their "improved" planner. If you go to the Facebook page for My Well Planned Day and read through some of the comments you will get a good idea of what is going on (or NOT going on!?) with the software. I'll also warn you that they are deleting negative posts and complaints at this point. If you are still within your refund date I strongly suggest you get one while you can. If you're not, or if anyone else is considering purchasing from HEDUA, please see their FB page first. Should you find all comments removed, I have them copied and will gladly share them. This isn't something I would normally do, but they are still SELLING this software to people and it does not work properly yet! So many people have lost money on this I'd hate to see others fall into the same trap. For those wondering about the planning software, please consider looking into reviews before dealing with this company who has been practicing unethical business tactics.
  10. So far, I like it. I added a few classes yesterday & it is certainly easier to figure out than other online planners. I will decide between Homeschool Planet and My Well Planned Day over the next few weeks when, hopefully, WPD releases an update.
  11. Homeschool in the Woods. Their Time Travelers, Project Passport, Lap Paks, Activity Paks, maps and timeline products are educational, beautiful, and provide hands-on fun. Spelling City. Very reasonably priced. Great way to set up spelling lists, practice tests, and spelling-related activities - all online with reports functions. They also have a mobile app for iPhone & iPad (and possibly Android). Coursera. Mainly for older students, this site offers online classes for free from some of the world's best learning institutions.
  12. Our family's favorite: Mashed Sweet Potatoes with Pecans 3lbs sweet potatoes, boiled & mashed 2 eggs, beaten ½ stick butter ½ cup half-and-half ¼ cup butter, softened ¼ cup all-purpose flour 2/3 cup brown sugar 1 cup pecans, chopped Combine potatoes, eggs, ½ stick of butter, and half-and-half. Add to prepared pan. Combine softened butter, flour, sugar, and pecans with fingers and sprinkle on top of potatoes. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
  13. Cut the bread in chunks and toast them in a single layer at 400 till they're like croutons. Saute the carrots (diced), water chestnuts (diced), and pepper (you guessed it: diced!) till soft. Add to bowl with cooled croutons. Add two eggs and either milk or broth or both till it's as wet as you want it. Bake about 45 minutes to an hour. That's it! Happy Thanksgiving, Michele, who hasn't posted in months!!
  14. Angela has abused my image and refuses to even pay me a royalty for the use of my photo! See her Facebook account for a picture of her DH. bwaaahhhaa!
  15. Yes. I was desperate for them to find the mammos they lost. I even baked them cookies, remember!? My lesson is learned. Going to St. Pete's next year.
  16. Already done, friend! I learned my lesson for next year and have threatened word-of-mouth already, lol! I'd even go somewhere else right now if insurance would pay for it. Also, I will report them as I hate to see others go through the same thing. Will tell you all about it tonight!
  17. Don't forget if you have Amazon Prime, their grocery section (which usually sells in bulk) might be helpful to you. Plus, with Prime, you'll have free 2-day shipping.
  18. I asked. They lied. Long story about why I didn't ask in advance, but ooooohhhhhhhh so aggravating.
  19. Thanks, Amy. I was hoping you would answer this. Unfortunately, it's too late to "run away", though I'd like to! I'm having issues with where my mammograms are sent. They're not reading them on site. The radiology/imaging center has a lot of complaints against them, which I didn't realize until after my mammo. Not sure if you remember biopsy and all I went through last year. Well, long story short: The imaging center is sending my films to a radiologist that I can't locate anywhere on the Web and, after lying about where he went to med school, they are now refusing to tell me where he went and what his credentials are. There's more to it than that but... I hate being lied to! Especially when it involves my microcalcified bre*sts! Thanks again, Michele
  20. Hi all, Popping in to ask a quick question: Do we have a right to know where a doctor (MD specifically) went to medical school? Or are they allowed to withhold that information if they desire? If we have a right to know - can you share where you got this info, or where I can find it on the Internet. I must be looking in the wrong places. Thanks, everyone. Michele
  21. Oh, and one more quick thing: They've been really great at being flexible when we go on vacation, get sick, etc. Rescheduling classes has been a breeze.
