  1. We have this same problem...and I have found nothing. We are working on an excel spread sheet, and are now throwing away the boxes and putting the disks in envelopes, labeling the envelopes, and putting them into storage boxes. We have probably 2000+ movies (my DH is a collector). It is rediculous. I have not alphabetized the titles yet as we are still putting them in envelopes, but we are seperating them by letter. Once we have sorted them all, I will start inputing them into the spreadsheet and alphabetizing them.
  2. OH GOOD!!! Thank you all for making me feel better!!!!
  3. WOW--that would be a great resource to have for my DS7!
  4. Hi there-- I wrote a post today on my blog, and now I am wondering if I should have. Am I way off base about this? The post was about a local school trying to get a grant for 17 iPods/iTouches from Pepsi. the post is on my blog, link is in my signature.
  5. my son also likes the Happy Scribe--all sorts of different topics, styles, etc. Really pretty cool!
  6. If you download directly to your PC you need to manually pull them into iTunes--either cut and paste or drag them from one window to the other. If you "subscribe" they will go in as a podcast.
  7. I also meant to tell you...I plan for 6 weeks at a time, and print one week at a time and adjust every sunday night what needs to be changed for the following week. This has wored VERY WELL for us. I used to use a teacher book, but hated all the scratch-outs when things changed. Quint knows what to expect this way, and it is really easy to see what needs to be completed.
  8. I have been using the free Excel Weekly planner over at Donna Young's site. She has LOADS to choose from!
  9. Roald Dahl! My 7 year old started with The Magic Finger, just finished Fantastic Mr. Fox and is now onto George's Marvelous Medicine. We have Charlie too--working up to it. Also--Geronimo Stilton is really fun if he is at all into adventure!
  10. We give our 7 year old son $7 a week for spending money. He also does chores--but NOT for money. He lives in the house and has to help out. But, with that said--in order to watch TV he has to do his chores. He has to do 7 chores--again because he is 7.
  11. Last summer we did mini-lessons from Gilligan's Island. (Mostly just island activities--since he was K/1) This summer we are going to do Mork and Mindy (since he asked for it) and I am sure mini-lessons on California and maybe aliens. (I am still working on the details.) I am also planning on doing all the art stuff that I never got around to during the "school year," as well as some basic geography/map skills and lapbooks.
  12. We also use FamilyMint.com. It's a great free on-line "banking system" for kids. We have been using it for about a month now. I like that we can automatically add allowance and seperate it into the different goals our DS7 has (which change frequently!) Right now, we are working on our first goal--a special toy he wants. He gets $7 a week (since he is 7), plus tooth fairy money and odd dollars from relatives, etc. Once we reach the first goal, we will try with two goals, and so on. Because it is his money I am letting him choose his goals and splits (within reason). I want to make sure HE knows what he wants and how to attain said goals.
  13. I just THIS WEEK switched my DS7 over to Math mammoth from MathUSee! He really seems to like it, and it is really pretty inexpensive. He likes that it is colorful and he is always doing different things. He is not one for a ton of manipulatives. He rather play (build) with them than learn to use them correctly. MM has him drawing dots all over the place which he REALLY understands.
  14. I have seen Lava Lamps at FiveBelow. Also at Walmart. I think at Target too.
  15. I am watching Food Inc as I am writing this. I will NOT be allowing my 7 year old to watch it. I think it is too heavy for him. I am personally having issues watching this right now. I would allow him to watch JO Food Revolution.
  16. Have you seen the monkey slingshot? My 7 year old has one and flings it at me all the time. You can find it here.
  17. Can you use one of those nuts and bolts storage containers/sorters from Home Depot or Lowe's?
  18. My hubby recently said to me..."so when we get that 3-d TV, what color do you want to paint the living room?" Um...???? 3-D TV????? And not pink (our LR is pink right now).
  19. I am so glad that I am not the only one...and that hopefully this means he IS super-smart (which I have always thought anyways) :)
  20. My DS7 goes upstairs around 8, IF he has earned TV time, he can watch a show. Then he can read until whenever. He is mostly asleep by 10.
  21. Is there ANY way to teach a child to move faster, not dawdle, not procrastinate? Might be helpful to throw in some "follow directions" too? My DS7 is S-L-O-W. He moves slow, does things slowly, just takes TIME to do everything. Even eating dinner. Like 30 minutes after my husband and I are done eating, HE is still eating. HOW DO I GET HIM TO MOVE?????? He is just on his own timetable. I don't mind if he stops to smell the roses, but most of the time he is oblivious to the roses and everything else around him. I can be standing there with five bags in my hands and ask him to open the door for me and it takes him FOREVER to get there. And then I drop stuff and the cat gets out and the dog gets in my way...and he is standing there like "why don't you put the bags down?" It is so annoying. And no, there are no known learning issues. Is this just BOY? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. I second the Hansel and Gratel opera! My mom made us watch it when we were kids and I still remember it several decades later. The movie I saw was done with marionettes, and was WONDERFUL!!! I found it on Amazon HERE
  23. Do you have my son? SERIOUSLY!!!! Here is what I have done-- 1--I added a journaling assignment--VERY EASY--although he really didn't like it at first (like for a month). Now he does it in five minutes and it is one of the first things he likes to do...I use Evan Moor Word a day 2--Make him earn 30 minutes at a time--and he can earn up to 90 minutes a day. I made a chore chart including schoolwork, eating habits, and exercises. If you want a copy let me know. this system has worked REALLY well for us.
  24. THANKS! Maybe I will look into a typing program for the summer...
  25. Hi there! I am looking for some sort of camputer skills curriculum for my DS7. We are very reading and writing intensive and really never use the computer (he watches the MUS videos, that's about all). Not just typing--but how to make charts, add graphics, use word processing programs, etc.
