  1. So I want to donate for hurricane relief for Houston, and I used to donate to American Red Cross for things like this, but now I'm reading that they may not be the best. I want the maximum amount of my donation to go to help people, not pay administrative costs. I read that Catholic Charities has very low overhead. I'm not Catholic, but if they help people while keeping their costs low, great! Anyone have some good info? I just want to make the best decision. Thank you, Hive, for always being a group I can count on to be a wealth of information.
  2. My husband and I own a (successful) small business. I disagree with your statement.
  3. I'm in this same phase of life. My kids are grown and I graduated my last one a year ago. I love reading about what others are doing. I'm excited for you!
  4. I homeschooled for 19 years and was never a member of HSLDA. Also sent my two oldest kids to the local public high school and never had a problem. We actually had a very good experience there. I get ya!
  5. I always eat eggs for breakfast, but this is my fave smoothie for "second breakfast:" 1 c. Water, or a little more to make smoothie thinner Spinach or kale Avacado (I use a whole one, but you could use a half) Juice of one lime 1 scoop protein and greens powder (I use this one https://www.vitacost.com/garden-of-life-raw-protein-greens-organic-powder-real-raw-vanilla-19-3-oz but Costco sells something similar) Blend that up and stir in some chia seed. I LOVE this smoothie!
  6. The salmon comment was an attempt at humor. The article I linked stated that drugs and personal care products had been found in the flesh of salmon caught in the Puget Sound. Among the drugs found were "Prozac, Advil, Benadryl, Lipitor, and even cocaine." By the way, I wasn't offended by your post, wording, etc. It was interesting, but not offensive, at least to me. I was just discussing, like ya do on a discussion board. :)
  7. Well, for starters, I would not call this a drugs poll. If you have lived in the US your whole life and English is your first language, I am assuming (hey, I could be wrong :) ) that you know that "taking drugs" usually refers to marijuana, cocaine, etc. This is not a comment on the morality of drug use, but simply a statement of what I understand "taking drugs" to mean. Secondly, I don't think caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine belong on the same list as OTC meds and prescription meds. Caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine are all choices, whereas medications are usually responses to something that is wrong in the body that cannot be controlled another way. I'm aware that caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine can be addictive, but their use starts with a choice not a requirement. And in light of this article, you might want to add salmon to your poll. ;) http://myscienceacademy.org/2017/07/16/seattle-caught-salmon-found-contain-cocaine-antidepressants-pain-relievers/?utm_content=buffer09e4e&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
  8. So what is the point of your OP? (I admit I haven't read all of your responses, but the ones I've read sound like arguments one of my teens used to make when he was trying to get people all worked up.) Do you just want to know who takes what? Please clarify. I have seen posts here before where someone asks a question and when enough people respond that the wording is weird, for lack of a better term, the OP will go back and edit the wording. Maybe you could try that. :)
  9. I drink coffee every morning, but no I don't take drugs. Every once in awhile, I have a glass of wine, but I don't consider that taking drugs either. I've been very fortunate in life that I don't have any medical conditions requiring medications. I have several friends who do, though, and I wouldn't classify that as taking drugs. In my opinion, you need to reword your question.
  10. I think FB can breed discontent. Personally it doesn't for me, but I realize that things posted there are snapshots of people's lives, not their entire life. And I'm generally happy for other people when they are happy. Happy people make a happier world; others being happy benefits us all. As far as annoying FB posters go, I just unfollow them. Unfollowing is something I learned about here, and it makes FB viewing so much better.
  11. I love both those cuts and think either one would look good on you. You have a very pretty face!
  12. Wait, I need to go check my calendar. I thought it was July, but maybe it's really April 1, and I'm just confused. Yes, he is NUTS. Says a very anal clean freak who still thinks this is a crazy idea.
  13. that the people with the strongest opinions are the most riled when someone else shares their own, differing opinion?
  14. I had this done about 11 years ago. I have had no problems. I'm a runner, too, so lots of high impact movement, but it's stayed perfectly in place. However, I didn't do any high impact movement for about a year afterward, because I did NOT want to undo the surgery. (I just rode a bike for execise or walked.) I also listened to my doc and took it easy for a few months in regard to heavy lifting, vacuuming, etc. A gyn did mine and he had done the procedure 100's of times before. I also got a second opinion before I went ahead with the surgery.
  15. Congrats to your son! Maybe he'll move to my neck of the woods. I love my doc, but she's my age. I need someone young as I head into my second half century. :)
  16. I wouldn't talk to her and would have him quit. You won't get this time back.
  17. Hugs to you mom@shiloh. No judgment here. I have three adult kids. Having adult kids can be difficult. I have the best parents ever, but I was kind of a stinker to them in my early adulthood. They had every right to have negative feelings toward me. They are now two of my best friends. One of my kids is harder to deal with than the other two. Life ain't pretty sometimes. I think you should have every right to vent here, just like so many other people do. I wish you the best.
  18. Yes, flying into Victoria. The original plan was to fly into Seattle and take a ferry to Victoria so we could spend a couple days in Seattle. But after the first thread I started about Victoria, we decided there is so much we want to do in Victoria that we are going to skip Seattle. We've been there before and loved it, but there's only so much time...
