  1. Looking for Xmas gift ideas here for 7th grade boy who just took MPOA History of Medicine and surprisingly loved it. I always get them a book or two for Xmas and have been racking my brain for some that might really interest him but am coming up short. Fiction, non-fiction, any ideas from anyone in the Hive?
  2. Adding my opinion. We are having a basic screen door installed on a back door at our business in rural Midwest. Handyman isn’t marking up the door cost (~$200) and will be re-doing the framework around it (removing old door jam, painting and installing new 1x10s around the frame) and installing the door and will be about $700. Much less custom work than it sounds you are needing, plus MUCH less fancy of a door.
  3. Following with great interest….. And off to look into a Moka Pot…
  4. Sigh. Cup gaps. Yes. Off to check these out, never heard of them..
  5. My feet which have random bunion problems and DON’T like Chacos AT ALL (or, at least, the soles they used 20 some years ago….) do just fine in them? Not sure if that helps or not!
  6. Ok, well good to know. I just assumed they were more house shoes with solid soles. Yes, I’d wear them outside if I needed to but woudln’t wear them out and about. Again, it’s the open heel that wouldn’t work so well where I live for most of the winter. Fall, yes, that could work…
  7. I love these, but would be too cold, unfortunately….
  8. I do have Halflinger slides/slippers I wear at home, more looking for something to wear out and about.
  9. Yes, those Duckfeet shoes are kind of exactly what I’m looking for, other than price range….
  10. While I love Berkies, I think my feet would want more protection in the cooler months…
  11. And now I’m lusting over those Blundstones…..
  12. I love flip flops. Love them so much I only need to two pairs - one at Teva more informal pair with double narrow straps and one metallic gold strap pair. Between the two of them I can wear pretty much any.single.summer outfit I own. I absolutely love the ease of just slipping them on and I’m good to go. Sigh…. Fall comes. Cold rainy day today. I braved it in flip flops anyway but it got me thinking…. Is there a perfect fall/winter equivalent of flip flops? You know, for ease and absolute match-with-pretty-much anything? I have various ankle boots and it’s almost the same but not quite…. Too formal for some outfits for one. I just want the perfect cold-weather equivalent! WHAT IS IT???
  13. I’m not sure how to cut your entry, but regarding pesto I have good news….. I NEVER make pesto with pine nuts for that very reason. I’ve for years easily substituted in any other nut - usually sunflower seeds actually because they are even cheaper than walnuts, etc - and the pesto is delicious. It’s one of my favorite “whip it up fast” things to do. The worst part for me about the whole process is just the picking the basil leaves off the stems. I fully support pesto with cheaper nuts!!!
  14. We are doing the Greeks with RR for DD in 9th this year. I have chosen to just do the Essential reading list since it still feels like plenty and according to them is still at an “honors” level. How, though, would be best to schedule this out over each 9 week quarter? I’m trying to figure something out but keep running up against walls every time I come up with an idea. I asked them but they do not have one created yet. Anyone here that has done this and has liked what you came up with that you’d be willing to share?
  15. I just watched a couple of hers, and particularly enjoyed one on maxi dresses for petite women! Two dresses she had on in that video I loved but they are both now sold out 😞
  16. I did try stitch fix a few years ago. I‘d forgotten to think about that route, thanks!
  17. One will be outdoors, the next will be in a Catholic Church and the one in October I’m not sure of yet…
  18. I had initially said hit me with any prices, but probably realistically we’re looking at $150 or below. No obvious problem areas other than right where the back of my arms hit my back. Just can’t seem to get that toned. Assets possibly my legs and as much as a derrière can be an asset at age 40….. I don’t think any preference on sleeves. Waist should be defined.
  19. For anyone who likes to online surf shop, hit me with your best ideas for this summer! Two weddings in May so far, and one in October. Bonus I guess if I can make the summer dress transition to the early October one 🙂 Details: I’m 5’3”, size 4. Longer torso with shorter legs. Athletic/curvy build maybe? We’re in the Midwest, and these weddings are going to be slightly more casual but I’m wanting something a bit more than a glorified sundress (I have some of those already). I generally look best in knee-length or very slightly above knees. Midi length I think is terrible on me. Not terribly opposed to maxi length, but haven’t ever wore one so would have to be convinced it could look good. Don’t need it to be super conservative, but not too much cleavage… AND THE BIG POINT - 40 years old!! Does this change what I can wear?? Spaghetti straps? Certain fabrics out? Walk with me into these uncharted waters…. LOL Hit me with all price points!
  20. I haven’t seen the PAC curriculum yet, off to check it out… And yes, we did watch some of the videos together. Was there something in particular your daughter didn’t like about the videos, or was it just that she needed non-screen time? Thank you for your response!
  21. @Lori D. I guess maybe I wasn’t clear. There would be 4 live on lines (with only 3 providers) (one of which is the drawing which was her elective which I was thinking maybe would be a bit lighter?) I was hoping that the Biology would be slightly less of the “stressful online feel” with it being asynchronous (maybe I shouldn’t assume that?). We watched some of those videos and also discussed continuing with Berean Builders (a text she’s doing now so familiar with) or MP Biology with their DVD videos for instruction and she liked FundaFunda the best. Roman Roads we’d only be doing at home, not the live class attached to it. I truly do appreciate your input. It is so very hard for me figuring out how to balance her needs and wants with our life circumstances and my honest assessment of where and when I’d be able to work on a class with her the most.
  22. Thank you @BusyMom5, I’ll have to look into Oak Meadow (I’m assuming that’s what you meant by OM).
  23. Sigh, I know. It is really hard right now with how our life circumstances are currently. I really wish I wouldn’t have to rely so heavily on online, and I keep trying to come up with ways to make that more doable, but with my work schedule - combined with a mother who so far has helped out with my kids and homeschooling on days I get called away (my schedule is not set, for the most part, which makes it REALLY hard to schedule school around) but is getting older and slowing down, combined with oldest entering high school and wanting to make sure I don’t fail her, combined with a husband who isn’t able or willing to step in to help at all makes for more reliance on online that I would like 😞
  24. “Rainbow Science: year 1 + year 2Normally done as 2 years in middle school, but combined and done in 9th, this works as Integrated Physical Science. Christian. Expensive, but all-included and solo-working by the student“. Sorry, not sure how to quote just a section of your post. Would Rainbow Science cover HS Biology enough to list it on a transcript as such? Or would she need to take another Biology course after this still?
