  1. Oh, that is a good suggestion! I just bought Gamma used but will do some placement testing to make sure we don't need to back track into Beta. I want to move into Delta by fall - if he's ready. I have bounced this poor guy around different programs - constantly hoping Saxon will finally work for him (It didn't for older ds either) -- He wants to do LofF so badly too. So, I'll combine them. I just want him to ENJOY math! Saxon just overwhelms him. Thanks!!
  2. Suggestions for student in Saxon 3 going to MUS? He hates Saxon and brother does MUS. should I do Gamma over summer and delta next fall?
  3. Thank you - I'll give it a try - price is good!
  4. This is on sale at Homeschool Buyers. Dyslexic Advantage recommended this type of software - has anyone used Ginger? Are you happy with it or have a different recommendation? Thanks
  5. Hi, The TE mentions tests and quizzes for the basic level but I don't see them in the student book or TE. Where can I buy these? Are they necessary? Thanks,
  6. Hi, I thought these were listed at the top of this forum page but I can't find them. Have they relocated? thanks
  7. Sequential spelling by AVKO- uses word families, no direct teaching of rules. A company has made a DVD so your child can put it in the computer and it reads the list and spells the word back to them immediatly. TOTALLY independent and the repetition of word patterns really helps them remember the spellings. Takes 15 mins a day.
  8. For some of our books, I like sprinkling in some of the graphic organizers (KWL chart for prereading a non-fiction or biography, a compare/contrast diagram for characters, sketch a scene, making predictions, etc) during a book study. Drawn into the Heart of Reading is a good place to start but there are free ideas on the internet. We also like to end a book study with a project - usually just takes a day or two. This beats the study question format but it does allow the student to think about what he/she is reading.
  9. Hi, Each year I try to include some saints biographies in our history study. BUT, I can't keep up with this as a read aloud for my dyslexic. I can't find any audio recordings of Vision Saints series (Ignatius press) or Encounter the Saints (Pauline Press). I just contacted the publishers on this but wondered if anyone else may have found something in the audio format for saints biographies. Thanks,
  10. Montessori grammar There is a lot on the net about it - free, easy, hands on - fun. We made a grammar lapbook too. http://www.ehow.com/about_4622987_guide-montessori-grammar-symbols.html
  11. Have you read The Out of Sync Child? The author also has a handbook JAM packed full of ideas/games/activities. I have a 10 year old, adopted son with dyslexia. I'd say right now his sensory issues are really flaring up also. Wonder why... transition to summer? heat? Good luck!
  12. For summer would Life of Fred work with a big picture thinker, dyslexic but loves read alouds? I was thinking of doing Jelly Beans as we are starting MUS fractions next fall and another thread didn't recommend using LOF as intro but as follow up. Thanks
  13. I plan to use EE next year. Several families I know have just loved it. k
  14. I've been looking at Exploration Education for my hands on, physics loving 5th grader. I know 2 families who used it and LOVED it!! Their boys begged to do science - even days they didn't have school!
