  1. I have not been on the board in a long, long time---but I came tonight to search for posts on how people deal with homeschooling a child with chronic illness; and your post was the first one that came up. I just wanted to say that I am sorry for all of the struggles your daughter is facing and that I hope she begins to heal and grow stronger very, very soon! I'm in a great POTS group on FB and many of the children deal with mast cell and EDS and gastroparesis in addition to POTS. If you are ever in need of support, even from a distance, and are on FB the group is POTSibities Parents. I absolutely would not even respond to that email unless you just want to tell her in some way to mind her own business. I'm sorry you are having to deal with someone like that on top of everything else.
  2. Do you know who is hosting it this year?
  3. I've just started watching the videos here, and so far, they are really good/helpful. http://www.amblesideschools.com/main/video/introduction Past talks from ChildLight conferences: http://www.childlightusa.org/conference_resources.php Also, anything at Simply Charlotte Mason is very good. They offer quite a few free e-books. http://simplycharlottemason.com/ -Kim
  4. I too am interested to know if anyone substitutes something for this part of the HOD program. My dd doesn't particularly care for this CD (we are using the CTC program too....don't know about the later ones), and I have mixed thoughts still. We both find it hard to listen to....she talks very fast (for us...LOL...) (ETA: The content is interesting....the style is hard to listen to.)
  5. I came across this thread when doing a google search on the Childlight USA curriculum.....also came across the website for Gillingham Charter School. You can see a sample of the Childlight curriculum they are using in a Word Document that can be downloaded off this page: http://gillinghamcharterschool.org/About-Us/Relational-Education-Methods/Life/ It's under "Book List". Just thought I'd share. I am interested in seeing the completed Childlight Curriculum project too! :)
  6. Oh, I just saw Picture Study Portfolios in your signature! I keep waivering on ordering these too! They sound fabulous. What a great year you have planned!
  7. I think I just replied to your post on the HOD board. :) We are so enjoying our start with CTC. I'll look forward to any updates you have when you get started. The book choices are one of my favorite things about HOD!
  8. We school year round and just started CTC and had a great week last week! Hoping all the weeks will go just as well! :) It's fun to see others will be working in CTC this year too.
  9. Build something with 100 ______ (whatever is easy to find around the house....q-tips, cotton balls, toothpicks) Read 100 poems throughout the day See how many ______ (jumping jacks, rolls, etc.) you can do in 100 seconds Find at least ______ ways (according to ability) to make 100 Have fun! :) -Kim
  10. WOW! Thanks for sharing your video companion! :)
  11. We started our new year this week! :001_smile: -Kim
  12. Here's my plan.....we'll see how it actually turns out! :)
  13. Wow, interesting thoughts. I would like to read more about this myself. I did an advanced google search (maybe the page will come up here) and came up with some other pages from Volume 3 that talk about oral lessons. I'll list some of them here: http://www.amblesideonline.org/CM/M322.html http://www.amblesideonline.org/CM/M320.html http://www.amblesideonline.org/CM/3_21.html Once you get on the page you can use the CTRL+F key to bring up a "Find" box at the bottom of your screen. If you enter "oral lessons" it will be easier to find the sections where they are discussed. (Sorry if you already know this tip, I just learned of it this past year and it is so helpful.) I hope this helps a little. -Kim
  14. I'm just getting more fully started with nature study myself, and my personal opinion is that cameras are fine. :) In a way, one has to look closely to find what to photograph also. And then if an extreme close up is desired, one is looking closely to choose that as well. So even though it's not as studied a time as perhaps sketching, a camera can still help one look closely. Not to mention capture a fleeting moment with some animals or scenes. And for some reason, I never really "got" that a nature study/journal entry could be all in words as well.....but I was at a Simply Charlotte Mason workshop where Sonya had examples of published nature journals, and some days' entries were just words. That was music to my ears! I think there is a time for all of it, depending on desired outcomes, resources and motivation. Hope that helps a little and that you enjoy getting started with nature study! I'll look forward to hearing others' ideas on this as well. -Kim
  15. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I wanted to share this link. http://www.nbclearn.com/portal/site/learn There are videos about the science behind the Olympic games that you can access from the front page or by clicking on "Original Video" and then "Science of the Olympic Winter Games". I haven't watched all of them yet, but the ones I've seen are really neat! -Kim
  16. THANK YOU!!! for sharing your wonderful pages! :)
  17. Breakfast for dinner (pancakes, hashbrowns, eggs if you are eating those, etc.) Stuffed shells (I have a recipe that uses different cheeses if you'd like it, you can PM me....) Pasta with tomatoes and beans on top (whatever kind of beans your children like mixed with diced tomatoes, heated and then served over the pasta of your choice, with or without cheese)....this is good with other veggies mixed in too. The only other thing I add is lots of basil because we love it. Pasta E Fagioli soup (we like the Bean Cuisine brand mix) Lentil soup (both Lysander and Bean Cuisine mixes are good) Meatless chili with rice I'll be watching this thread, because I'm interested ideas too!
  18. My daughter likes this book (and the cups :-) ). Cook It In a Cup.... http://www.amazon.com/Cook-Cup-Quick-Treats-Silicone/dp/0811859568/ref=pd_sim_b_3 And also Paula Deen's My First Cookbook http://www.amazon.com/Paula-Deens-My-First-Cookbook/dp/1416950338/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254251692&sr=1-1 She's 7 and just getting started cooking, so she's/we've only made a few recipes so far, but many look very good (though we may alter some of Deen's a bit). -Kim
