  1. I came across this thread when doing a google search on the Childlight USA curriculum.....also came across the website for Gillingham Charter School. You can see a sample of the Childlight curriculum they are using in a Word Document that can be downloaded off this page: http://gillinghamcharterschool.org/About-Us/Relational-Education-Methods/Life/ It's under "Book List". Just thought I'd share. I am interested in seeing the completed Childlight Curriculum project too! :)
  2. WOW! Thanks for sharing your video companion! :)
  3. I'm just getting more fully started with nature study myself, and my personal opinion is that cameras are fine. :) In a way, one has to look closely to find what to photograph also. And then if an extreme close up is desired, one is looking closely to choose that as well. So even though it's not as studied a time as perhaps sketching, a camera can still help one look closely. Not to mention capture a fleeting moment with some animals or scenes. And for some reason, I never really "got" that a nature study/journal entry could be all in words as well.....but I was at a Simply Charlotte Mas
  4. I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I wanted to share this link. http://www.nbclearn.com/portal/site/learn There are videos about the science behind the Olympic games that you can access from the front page or by clicking on "Original Video" and then "Science of the Olympic Winter Games". I haven't watched all of them yet, but the ones I've seen are really neat! -Kim

  6. Breakfast for dinner (pancakes, hashbrowns, eggs if you are eating those, etc.) Stuffed shells (I have a recipe that uses different cheeses if you'd like it, you can PM me....) Pasta with tomatoes and beans on top (whatever kind of beans your children like mixed with diced tomatoes, heated and then served over the pasta of your choice, with or without cheese)....this is good with other veggies mixed in too. The only other thing I add is lots of basil because we love it. Pasta E Fagioli soup (we like the Bean Cuisine brand mix) Lentil soup (both Lysander and Bean Cuisine mixes
  7. My daughter likes this book (and the cups :-) ). Cook It In a Cup.... http://www.amazon.com/Cook-Cup-Quick-Treats-Silicone/dp/0811859568/ref=pd_sim_b_3 And also Paula Deen's My First Cookbook http://www.amazon.com/Paula-Deens-My-First-Cookbook/dp/1416950338/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1254251692&sr=1-1 She's 7 and just getting started cooking, so she's/we've only made a few recipes so far, but many look very good (though we may alter some of Deen's a bit). -Kim
  8. Does anyone know of an NIV Bible that lists the verse numbers to the left of each verse and where each verse starts on its own line? My New Inductive Study Bible does this. If I'm not making sense, you can see an excerpt on this page: http://www.christianbook.com/nasb-new-inductive-study-bible-hardcover/9780736900164/pd/00160?item_code=WW&netp_id=207628&event=ESRCN&view=details#curr I am looking for an NIV translation for my daughter to use with her Community Bible Study class study (the study is based off NIV) and I'd like to find one that makes it more simple to find t

  11. I received an email from Heart of the Matter with a link to a 3 day sale on the Well Planned Day planner. I don't see anything requesting that this link not be shared (vs.sharing the whole email), so FWIW here it is if anyone else is interested in ordering before the end of the month. http://www.wellplannedday.com/HTM910Planner.aspx :)
  12. Guest Hollow (formerly Los Banos) has a great program. http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/history/americanhistoryindex.html
  13. For myself, I have enjoyed the All Day Seminar, Laying Down the Rails (seminar and book), and Planning Your CM Education (book). I also bought one of the calendar planners (2 years ago) and it was very nice. I may buy the new one coming out for August 2009-December 2010. My dd loves Spelling Wisdom (we are using it slowly), and we are also reading Boy of the Pyramids. It is good. I have Jack's Insects for a future read. I bought a download version of the first history cycle and I really like it---though we have decided to pursue American history studies for now. I also really like th
