  1. My mother was 61 when she finally had menopause. I tend to be a lot like her, but hoping for not 12 more years! And we started at age 10, too.
  2. I’m sorry this is happening to you and your kids. I have been in the same situation, and it sucks. The local homeschoolers here are not even remotely wonderful and the ‘social scene’ is abysmal. My ds is in college now, and my dd(16) is full-time dual enrolled at the community college. I am so very happy not have to try to keep fitting into the homeschool crowd, and with their current behavior politically and with the pandemic, I don’t even want to be associated with them in any way. I’m so thankful I don’t have little kids…..I don’t know what I’d do. But yeah, I’m bitter and disappointed in homeschooling, especially the last couple years. My dc were incredibly lonely. Though they did get a good education. I hope you can find a good fit for your kids…..
  3. Personally, I have no concerns Covid-wise with takeout food, and we’ve had takeout food twice a week during the entire pandemic. Either of your options sound fairly low risk, if the places aren’t crowded.
  4. I highly doubt he’s still thinking about your interaction with him at all. As an also quiet and very non-confrontational person, I understand how you feel after behaving in a way you normally don’t. I’ve done it too, and end up beating myself up over it, rehashing it for way too long, feeling embarrassed. Try to let it go, you’re just a human and we all make mistakes sometimes, especially when stressed, like most of us are right now. 😊
  5. I’m still working with my primary care doctor (who is also a bariiatrician) and a dietician and am now down 37 lbs since mid-July. I track my food to stay within their recommended calories and macros and exercise. My diet is fairly high protein, lower/moderate carb, but I feel satisfied and not hungry or deprived at all. I had my labs and body comp done in October, and all my blood work has returned to normal—no longer pre-diabetic, cholesterol and triglycerides normal, and less than 1/2 a pound of my weight loss had been muscle at that time. So while it feels slow to me (still have about 40 lbs to lose), I am feeling better and happy with my progress. I have Hashimotos, fibromyalgia, and inflammatory arthritis and my endocrinologist and rheumatologist are both very pleased with my progress and commented on it being harder to lose weight with those conditions…..and being a 49 year old female doesn’t help either.😂
  6. Dd(16) got her booster yesterday, so now our household is fully boosted. She has a pretty sore arm, but otherwise feels ok today.
  7. After several mishaps of trying to fix mine myself, I definitely recommend going to a professional.😂 At the beginning of the pandemic, I considered letting my gray grow out (also have dark brown hair). It grew out about 4 inches, and I realized my gray is very splotchy and not evenly spread throughout my hair. So, back to coloring. Highlights make my hair too dry, so my hairdresser has been putting in some lowlights that just deposits color but keeps it from looking like just a solid brown. I can go about 8 weeks between touch ups and use the root spray in between.
  8. I don’t think this is unreasonable at all. Everyone in our local extended family is vaccinated and boosted—the teens under 17 will all be boosted by next week, and we don’t have any younger kids. We’ll get together for Christmas (11 people), and won’t test or wear masks. I’ll keep some windows cracked, and if anyone in this group had any type of symptoms, they would not come. I still mask in public—stores, church, etc, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We’re in a very anti-mask/anti-vax area and still have a lot of community spread. However, since I’ve been boosted, I have eaten in a restaurant twice during non-crowded times and wore a mask when not eating, but I have not worn a mask when in a small group with others who I know are vaccinated/boosted. I’m kinda to the point that I’ve done everything I can to protect myself and family. I’ll gladly continue masking in public places to protect others and possibly myself, but I just can’t keep up the mental energy required to be so cautious—- and the isolation has done some damage to our family, especially my teens. So, I’m trying to have a more balanced approach.
  9. I completely agree. I, too, have never been so saddened and disheartened with the church as a whole.
  10. No, it hasn’t. Or even hypertension, type 2 diabetes, etc. These are all manageable, treatable conditions that many people can live long, relatively healthy lives with.
  11. Ds (18) had J&J in April. He got a Pfizer booster on Saturday. Just a sore arm and felt a little more tired than usual on Sunday. He’s feeling fine today.
  12. Dh and I had Pfizer boosters yesterday afternoon. He just has a sore arm today. I have a sore arm, headache, achy, super tired, low fever (100) and have a slight sore throat (I had a slight sore throat after the first two as well). Glad I did it on a Friday again….
  13. I’m so sorry about your sister…..hoping she makes a full recovery quickly. I’m counting down the days to get my booster….just about 6 months out. The pharmacies here are requiring 6 months to give the booster, unless immunosuppressive.
  14. This is what I’ve done too…..reduced it a lot rather than giving it up completely. Thinking I couldn’t have it anymore only made me want it more. I only have it about twice per week now, and I feel fine about that.
  15. I agree…..I would bet he’s out of the US.
  16. Thank you so much for those links…..the creakyjoints article was the best breakdown I’ve seen on the vaccine and meds.
  17. Yikes, that is disturbing, but thank you for the info. I can lay low a little more before and after….I work from home, can order groceries, etc, and everyone in our household is fully vaccinated. Our area had a big Delta surge but numbers are steadily decreasing over the last few weeks.
  18. Thank you for the responses. It’s encouraging to hear it’s helped and no major side effects. I will probably wait to start until after my booster, since it’s so close now anyway…..I’m getting the booster for other non-autoimmune issues. My primary care doctor suspects taking the Plaquenil very well may resolve some other health issues too because he thinks they’re being influenced by my chronic inflammation.
  19. Please don’t quote, as I plan to delete details. I’ve had Hashimotos and fibromyalgia for many years. Thyroid is well-controlled with medication. However, I’ve still had unexplained joint pain and stiffness, rib pain, fatigue, and elevated inflammation markers in my blood tests and very positive ANA. Finally was able to see a rheumatologist who did a ton of labs and X-rays. Long story short, I don’t have lupus, RA, etc. but says I definitely have autoimmune issues going on and diagnosed inflammatory arthritis and possibly ankylosing spondylitis. Dr would like me to start on a low dose of Plaquenil to see if it improves how I feel and my inflammatory markers. I haven’t started it yet because the dr wants me to have a baseline eye exam first. I’m always nervous to start any new medication. Does anyone have experience taking this? Also, I’m planning to get my Covid booster at the end of the month and wonder if it would be better to wait until after that to start the med. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t appear to be considered an immunosuppressant.
  20. Exactly……that was the main problem with the program. The idea of focusing on hunger and fullness is fine, but she added a lot of negative and untrue things to that concept.
  21. Interesting….. I’ll plan to watch it. I did Weigh Down at a church back in the 90’s…..lost 55 lbs and kept it off until I developed thyroid disease and did fertility treatments. Also developed some very disordered behavior around food and legalism. I never read any of her other books and stopped following her once her denial of the Trinity came out. I’m just now learning to lose weight and eat in a healthy way….I hadn’t seen how damaging WD was to me before I started working with my dr and a dietician.
  22. Halloween—we’re planning to have a little outdoor event with some friends (all vaxed). Thanksgiving and Christmas we plan to spend with my parents and sister and her family. We’re all vaxed, all kids are over 12 and vaxed. Most of us will have likely had boosters by then as well. We’re within an hour of each other, so not traveling.
  23. We visited a Catholic church today and loved it, even my teens. Dh grew up Catholic, but we’ve mostly attended nondenominational or Lutheran churches since we were married. Our church dissolved early in the pandemic, and we haven’t found any locally that aren’t of the anti-vax, mask, etc. type, and I just can’t even go there anymore with that attitude. Dh suggested we visit the local Catholic church. Every single person was masked, windows open, congregation not singing, obviously taking the pandemic seriously. Beautiful service, friendly and kind people, and it was so nice to go to church in person after a year and a half. We’re all looking forward to going again.
  24. I’m working on weight loss now too. I’ve struggled with my weight for many years, have PCOS, Hashimotos, and fibromyalgia which makes it more difficult. I’ve done WW more times than I can count and never stuck with it more than a few weeks. My primary care doctor got an additional certification in bariatric medicine and hired a dietician and counselors to work with him. My BMI is high enough that my insurance is covering weight management with him. I’ve been alternating seeing him, the dietician, and counseling for the last 12 weeks. I’ve lost 20 pounds and am really feeling I can continue to be successful losing over the long term. My diet is very flexible and doable as a lifestyle. I’ve just been walking as usual for exercise. My recommendation would be to get professional assistance from a doctor and/or dietician if possible. I was very surprised to learn my insurance covers most of it.
  25. My teens (16 & 18) did fine. Dd got Pfizer on her 16th birthday. Just a sore arm with first shot. Felt fatigued, achy, headache for about a day after her second shot.
