  1. When we started IEW my then 5th grader did it with a 3rd grader. Now my current 3rd grader is doing it with his older brother, 5th grade. We found they worked well in pairs; they would collaborate on stories and read finished work to each other.
  2. We school year round, taking time when we need/want it. We don't follow a schedule or plan, just keep pushing forward. We usually school 5 days a week, but I will easily drop a school day for a day at the beach, or a visit to the museum. We also take a week or two here and there for vacations, Christmas, etc. We sometimes work weekends if we are in the mood, or there wasn't much work done that week. My boys are at grade level or ahead in all subjects, and none of us ever feel burnt out. That reminds me, I don't think I shared my homeschool mum interview from the Pioneer Woman here, I talked a little about our year round approach there. http://thepioneerwoman.com/homeschooling/2014/01/homeschool-mom-interviews-irishmum/
  3. Oh, haha! Tell your daughter to send my payment now ;) You have quiet the menagerie. Do you really need ferrets to complete it?? (I say yes ;) ) That is hilarious!! They are so like potato chips. I met a male ferret that needs a new home, and I am finding it really hard not to take him. Surely four is the correct number of ferrets to have??!
  4. It is best to wait for the kids to be a bit older, ferret teeth hurt ;) They will be worth the wait :)
  5. They are a handful, and do require a lot of handling to teach them not to bite, but once in your heart that is where they stay!
  6. I LOVE your avatar :) Do you have ferrets?
  7. I thought some of you might like to see my girls. They make me laught daily, and maybe you can have a chuckle at them today.
  8. My son started learing to code with codecademy and Khan Academy last year. He has progressed in leaps and bounds since then. He found Scratch after Khan Academy and codecademy but he recommends kids to start with Scratch. My husband has written a series of posts on teaching kids to code if you are interested. http://airskull.com/coding/ With specifically codecademy and Khan Academy here http://airskull.com/learn-to-code-javascript/
  9. We use audiobooks. We started with them when my youngest was about 3, and we have gone throught 100s in the last 6 years. We listen at some meal times, and on long car journeys. Some highlights for us were How to Train your Dragon series, Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit, all listened to multiple times. I don't read aloud much now I just sit back and listen to the experts reading.
  10. Another post in the series http://airskull.com/learn-code-python/
  11. Bumping for anyone who may have missed the opportunity to help make Rafael's day extra special :)
  12. Fantastic! I wonder if it will be the only card form the Netherlands??!
  13. Thanks foxbridgeacademy! Hopefully someone in the US can give you the answer to this.
  14. What a lovely idea! And have a great holiday :)
  15. A card is a card, home-made or otherwise, it will still bring him joy. Thanks a million mumto2!!
  16. How lovely! I put them all in the same envelope, but yeah if I had of thought about it, I might have mailed them separately. My boys did put a home made wax seal on the envelope :) That should be fun to open.
  17. It's Werribee in Victoria, but the 3030 tells the post office the Victoria bit. You can add Victoria or leave it out. Thanks so much 67_others. Every card counts :)
