  1. I read them with my then 2nd and 3rd grader. As someone said MFW is really good about warning you if something sensitive is coming up. You can then decide how to approach it. They are amazing stories of faith and the kids understand that. We still sometimes talk about Nate Saint (that was the one story they most cared about).
  2. Sounds like the room would only be a temporary thing anyway being there will be 6 children soon. I would give the room with the understanding that they automatically bunk with the baby when (s)he is old enough. When you explain this you may find out that no one wants that room ;).
  3. Gonna have to make my animals say that too next time they ask for a new catch phrase. I <3 animal crossing!!!
  4. I have the hard cover PLL and ILL and we really enjoyed using it. I probably wouldnt buy a workbook version since I like to try to keep my consumable use to a minimum (that way I can easily use it for my youngest).
  5. I don't think it is weird. We call it musical bedrooms in our house because everyone changes where they sleep all the time. I am a mom of 5 and live in a 4 bedroom house, a bunk bed in each kid bedroom (daddy and I like to sleep on a queen ;)) some could have a room to themselves but no one wants it. Each child has tried it and no one will stay more than a night. They enjoy sleeping together. They sleep more hours when they sleep in the same room than when they are alone. We never deal with nightmares. I think they just feel so much more secure knowing they are not alone. The personal space is something that I don't think my kids have discovered yet. No one has ever complained of needing alone time and on the rare occasion that is does occur they always look lost and complain of being bored. Oh and I thought I would put in there since someone mentioned CPS. I have a very good friend that does child protection services and that is not the kind of stuff she is worried about. She knows our sleeping arrangements and still tells me I am a great mom. I hardly think that you could lose your kids based only on sleeping arrangements.
  6. :grouphug: It is very frustrating when you feel like you have wasted money on something that ultimately doesn't work for your family. This late in the year I wouldn't chuck the whole thing out. I would figure out how to make it work with out costing me alot more money. Get the AG guide if that is what will make it better for you. Keep the cost down and tweak so that it works for your family. No program is a perfect fit for every family. Give yourself permission to skip or tweak so that the program is working for you.
  7. I'd get (actually did get the homeschool edition). It has the quizzes, tests, reader, and lesson plans included with it. I definately think it is worth it.
  8. :iagree: This is us too. I do realize that death/divorce happens but I am not going to "plan" for it. We have very good life insurance...way more than our "lifestyle" (we joke that DH is worth more dead than alive) we dont have debt. So if a tradegy happened I could handle it. I could get a job if need be. I have older kids so there would be no child care costs. Really I am not worried about it at all.
  9. so far I have saved everything. I have room though so I dont have to take that into consideration. This is the first year of reusing a previously bought curriculum and I am glad that I have it. Another thing to condier is how much easier it is the second time around. I remember things from the first time, know what I liked or wanted to change.
  10. I put other. I pay him an allowance and as a "chore" I expect him to help out by babysitting when needed. That is not set in stone though as I will pay him more if he ends up babysitting alot.
  11. Are you having the military move you or doing it yourself? I have different advice based on that answer. :)
  12. That is all you need :) A good set of encyclopedias would be great but you can just use the library or the internet.
  13. I didnt lose weight either. I was so dissapointed. What is worse is I gained weight. I would have been happy just to have stayed the same but no I had to gain. :(
  14. Presents go under the tree late christmas eve night once everyone is in bed. I will put a couple of new board games I bought under the tree the night before christmas eve. Christmas eve for us is full of family fun and of course a huge meal. The kids will put their gifts under the tree for each other sometime christmas eve. We will open those later that night.
  15. yes and no?? I'm not sure what is considered celebrating Santa anymore. LOL I don't wrap presents from Santa (all of our presents just say the childs name and no from unless it is from Grandma). However, we leave the tree empty until christmas morning so there is a big WOW!!. I do not take them to see Santa or write letters to him either. However, my kids do leave out cookies and milk, watch movies with him in it and sometimes even talk about him. If they ask though I tell them he is make believe. We do however have an elf. He is a 10" doll that comes out on Dec 1 (and stays until Christmas eve) that the kids play with. They know he isnt real but love trying to find where he hid every morning. Sometimes he even gets into christmas gifts :glare: LOL!! It is all in fun and of course obviously not real but the kids love it. we use to make a happy birthday Jesus cake but don't anymore. That is confusing too since it obviously isnt Jesus' birthday. I grew up believing that Christmas was originally a christian holiday (i.e. Christs birthday) and that it was non believers who "corupted" it and now that I have done research and found it not true I don't do that either. No biggie Jesus is center to our everyday anyway. Christmas is just a wonderful family tradition for us. :)
  16. I agree with all of the above. I got my son a 4GB MP3 with video capabilities for under 20.00. I also got a keyboard with stand and instruction video for 50.00.
  17. yep exactly! We are air force and the same thing applies. You dont have to do anything at all.
  18. It depends on the state but I would say it is highly likely.
