Avengers Infinity War Discussion--SPOILERS!!!
Kim in Appalachia replied to cintinative's topic in The Chat Board
I don't have time to discuss today, but I have to say that it was fun hearing everyone's gasps at the end. One woman did yell out loud, "What the f**k?" and then she laughed hard because she hadn't meant to say it out loud.:D There were also a lot of "wait? what?" Super fun. In my current household of 5, 4 of us enjoyed it. My ds13 is quite the pretentious critic these days, and has been detailing everything wrong with the movie since we saw it Thursday night. He didn't even want to see it, but we made him. :P He's been so cranky about everything lately, and I didn't want to let him sit home and brood. We had paid to see it in 3D, but something went wrong and it was not. We did, however, get free tickets for another 3D movie. My one son went with friends and saw it in IMAX. He thought it was good. There was only 1 thing I really didn't like, and that was the space dog/monster things. It felt like it was Lord of the Rings. Otherwise, I enjoyed the different elements and team ups. -
It was my gym day. Today was deadlifts, presses, lat pull downs, lunges and a little ab work. I finished it off with 12mins of intervals on the erg. I'm enjoying rowing. I also went for a walk today. Most days I've been getting over 10,000 steps, usually including a 2 mile walk. Tomorrow will probably be a rest day because I'm just so busy. @SarahCB , hope it's a good flight! And 65# goblet squat is no joke. I'm doing 65 with a back squat. I could not do that as a goblet squat.

:D You've been bitten by the bug. Wait a couple of weeks, and if you still feel that way find one to sign up for that will really motivate you. Congrats on the half.

Oh, I didn't mean he was crazy, and I didn't mean to offend. I understand what this girl is going through (the OPs dd) I've been there. And to be pulled, dragged, or sucked into someone else's crazy is a common expression I've heard since I was young, and I've never heard it in regards to actual mental illness. It usually means into someone's problems or drama. Sorry if I offended.

It was a good first week with NRFL4W. I'm going too heavy on a few things, so I'm dialing it down, but otherwise it felt good. It was hard without being impossible. When I did squats again on Friday, at 65lbs, I could feel the glues engage. I was definitely pushing upwards with my hamstrings and glutes with 0 pressure on the back. I'm getting used to being in the weight room. I realized on Friday that they have the set up for a sit down row, with a bench and foot plates. On Monday I sat on the floor and did the row (another machine allowed me to adjust the level of the pulley.) The machine was harder to use though. I could not do the same weight. I don't know if the angle was different of what it was, but it was nicer than sitting on the floor. I got my orthotics on Thursday (they are custom). I had the molds done for them in Feb, but somehow missed the phone call and message letting me know they were done over a month ago. When I got measure for them, the guy told me that I had a significant leg length difference, about 1/2 inch. He added 1/4 in to the one side. He said 1/2 is just too much, but thought the 1/4 would help enough. I'll see how it goes with them. I had hoped to also do 2 days of cardio along with 3 days of lifting. I did do some HIIT work after lifting twice this week, and I had thought to hit the gym this weekend for some lower intensity cardio, but I don't have the time. Instead, this morning, before errands, I did 60 mins of yoga. Every time I do yoga, I think how good it feels and that I should practice it more. Maybe I will work that into my schedule instead of the cardio workouts. It won't burn the calories the same, but I think it could be more beneficial. I also took a 30 mins walk while my son was at his piano practice. Got it in before the rain hit. The rest of my day is for school work. I have a lot to do. @PinkTulip, I love the rowing machine. I've been doing my HIIT on it. I may start warming up on it as well. @wintermom, I watched a bunch on online videos to learn how to do the rowing. Tall guy rowing (???I think that's it, or something like that. Sure it would come up with google) Had a lot of good tips. It also helped just to watch different people row. I don't do all the way forward, so I don't hit my knees, if that makes sense. My hips are too tight to get that close.

My sister's dh used to say stuff like that, but she set him straight. :D I did go for a walk last night. :) I probably should have studied more, but it all worked out. The test was not hard for me. Today is a rest day, but I'm still planning on a walk tonight.

I started NRFL4W today. I did 65lb squats, 90lb on the row, and used two 15lb dumbbells for the step-up. I have to do push ups on my knees. :) It felt good. I warmed up on the elliptical, and finished off with 6 mins on the erg. It felt great after taking a week off. I also have been walking most days (missed the day it rained.) and I have a test tomorrow, so no walk tonight. :( I lost 2lbs last week. My zone-ish attempts have been good. My goal is to have my ratio right at the end of the day (so 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats) Most days have worked out. Hope everyone has a good week.

UPDATE: Dealing with debt...sell the house or tough it out?
Kim in Appalachia replied to LarlaB's topic in The Chat Board
I would stay in the house. You have a renter, and it's helping. If everything else fails, you can always sell later. But for now, I would work on another way to slowly get that debt down. If you sell, you have nowhere to live and will have to rent. It will not work out for long. And what everyone is saying about FAFSA is true. The house won't count much, but cash in the bank will. It will really bite you in the end if you do that. And ((((hugs)))) I'm glad you're getting to the other side of a long mess. I hope things stay on the upswing for a while. -
My Fitness Pal not working in my browser? (Updated)
Kim in Appalachia replied to Night Elf's topic in The Chat Board
I'm glad you got it to work. Yes, I had to clear out everything. It was such a pain. I had to resign into every site, including Google, which is the most annoying. -
My Fitness Pal not working in my browser? (Updated)
Kim in Appalachia replied to Night Elf's topic in The Chat Board
Clear your cookies. I had that issue today too. I cleared my cookies and it worked fine. I also have that issue with a certain part of my college's website. Drive me nuts. -
I have no idea what would work best after that, but I would encourage you to do whatever you enjoy and not worry about the weight too much. If you are really looking to slim down, then I would say running or cycling would be the best option. I also wanted to say, "hi". I'm an old timer here and I remember you. It doesn't seem like you haven't been here for 5 years!? Time flies. Sorry about your health. Cancer s*cks.

You MUST be joking, right? Plagiarism?
Kim in Appalachia replied to BlsdMama's topic in The Chat Board
I would email the professor. I would want the professor to clarify what exactly was wrong. He has to be able to point to something as plagiarized. If that got nowhere, then I would see who I could email to up the chain. I would not accept it. And I do realize many schools will back the professor, but it is worth the fight over it. -
Hi everyone, I haven't posted here in what seems like forever mostly because of school. I'm in school, full time, working on getting my OTA certification. Anyway, I'm also no longer running, which makes me sad. I blew out my plantar fascia in my right foot. I've been focusing on kettlebells. I was supposed to finish up my 12 week program in another 2 weeks, but i just had some warts (I know gross) surgically removed and will not be gripping things for what i hope is only a week. When i finish my kettlebell program I was thinking of starting NRFL4W. I'm at the gym 3 days a week and i think it could be a good fit. I thought I'd jump in here cause I need somewhere to report and vent. :D I also need to focus on diet. Between not running and school I've gained 15lbs (My dd teased that i've gained the freshman 15 :P) I'm going to try going zone-ish / paleo-ish just eat better than i have been. I never liked paleo because of its restriction on beans, plus, I love grains. But I'm going to cut back as much as I can on processed stuff. I do really miss running. Running means you can eat bread. Really. Nothing torches calories like running. So hi to everyone. I will try to check in once in a while.

:grouphug: I have no advice, except to suggest seeking PT. What did your Dr suggest? I know there is medication, and I know that strength training is suggested. But it will really depend on the extent of your osteoporosis and what the doctor says you can and can not do. Proceed carefully, but do find out what you can do. Maybe a specialist is needed? I don't know. :grouphug: again.

Feeling overwhelmed - upset with myself
Kim in Appalachia replied to Teresa in MO's topic in The Chat Board
You can call, but I would show up at my insurance agent's office. I would want a face to face to figure out what is going on. Have him/her go over the steps with you so that you understand. This is overwhelming! Don't be afraid to ask the agent to reexplain or to rephrase so that you understand. This is stressful and you should ease your stress by being armed with as much information as you can. :grouphug: The other party will most likely not go for anymore than your insurance can pay. People know they can't win that. They are just trying to find out how much your insurance will pay out, then they will settle for that amount. -
:grouphug: :grouphug: Lisa, I'm so sorry for your loss. :grouphug:

Washing machine: agitator vs impeller?
Kim in Appalachia replied to carriede's topic in The Chat Board
I would say that the front loaders clean the best, better than a machine with and agitator. But I now have a top loader and it does not clean as well. I will not buy another top loader. My vote would be for the agitator over the top loader, but if you can talk yourself into it, those front loaders are great. -
Good luck! I know that feeling. You just want to stop looking at the material and get the test over with.

Such a lovely campus. There are some nice pubs in the area (for you guys, when you go visit her if she goes there. :D ) We only went once. My dd didn't end up there, but they have a terrific strings program. Hope it all goes / went well!

so my husband has been neglecting me....
Kim in Appalachia replied to SparklyUnicorn's topic in The Chat Board
:smilielol5: That made me really laugh. I just took a test this past week that included types of play, and I've been doing early childhood observations and have had to note that, so you're comment gave me a big laugh. My dh, who has been working on several extra, out of job projects, as well as developing a possible new aspect to his current job, asked me if I thought he should serve (again. He had done it in the past) on a non-profit board. :tongue_smilie:  I said no, and he proceeded to try and convince me. He came back to it every hour. All night long. I am standing my ground on it. I'm in school full time and we still have these kids.......... -
Thanks!

This has been my experience as well. and to add to it, I knew of a "soup kitchen/food pantry" that opened, with grants and charity fundraising, who's sole purpose was drugs, prostitution, and panhandling. They even had signs up at other charity places up to 30 miles away advertising! Like it was a legit job. I watched it function on a daily basis and it was stomach turning.

Olympic Figure Skater Outfits
Kim in Appalachia replied to MamaBearTeacher's topic in The Chat Board
She's one of my all time favorite female skaters. She was amazing. Such strength and grace rolled together. I watched her every chance I got. She was a part of that group that toured, I believe Scott Hamilton was as well and Michelle Kwan. -
Olympic Figure Skater Outfits
Kim in Appalachia replied to MamaBearTeacher's topic in The Chat Board
Yes! I love hearing them comment. If they could just get rid of the 3rd wheel. Gannon adds nothing to the commentary. As far as the outfits, I was thinking they were looking more "modest" . Styles change. when they showed a clip of Scott Hamilton winning in 84,all I could think was that it was wonderful that the men no longer dressed that way. :D
