  1. Math Mammoth 7 is a stellar pre-algebra program. I feel it is the best level of all of them, and your daughter would be well served by completing it. She will be more than prepared for algebra.
  2. It's a great program! I agree that if your child can do one day's work at a time, then go for it. Also, for what it's worth...I may find something to be boring or repetative, but if my child enjoys it and is progressing, then how I may feel personally is irrelevant, ya know? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. :)
  3. You needn't have any concerns regarding the author's religion. It truly is non-denominational; there is nothing in any of their products that is anything other than is what is common to any Christian. No doctrine specific to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is included anywhere. It is purposely designed to serve anyone. We have been using the LA, handwriting, typing, history, and science for some time now and have been nothing but pleased. As the LA levels 1-5 are available as free downloads, take a look and try it out!
  4. Yes, is there a particular reason why you don't just go ahead and use The Good and the Beautiful?
  5. Another enthusiastic vote for Marguerite Henry's books! She was a prolific author, so there are lots of good choices.
  6. Yes, the course book is necessary for every lesson. If you chose to use it as a PDF rather than printing, it would be very easy to do. A printed copy is very handy though!
  7. One really nice feature is the option to order as a download; you would eliminate shipping costs to Canada. (That wouldn't apply to the board game, which is a bummer, but the games each year are optional anyway). The audio presentations and all age levels of Student Explorer pages are included and are downloads anyway.
  8. The Good and the Beautiful's history is the favorite at our house.
  9. Titles in the series are: Science in the Beginning Science in the Ancient World Science in the Scientific Revolution Science in the Age of Reason Science in the Industrial Age
  10. Jay Wile's Science in the... series published by Berean Builders is excellent. It teaches science following an historical timeline addressing the scientists and the concepts they developed as they occurred. It is very informative and engaging. Each lesson is fairly brief, and each has a simple experiment. We love it!
  11. We used Uncle Sam and Me last year and loved it! The quality of the content far outweighed any "easiness" or "fluffines" for us. I don't think something necessarily needs to be difficult to be worthwhile. They do a good job of being largely neutral politically and focus more on general patriotism, personal responibility as citizens, and finding what unites us. If nothing else, a basic understanding of how local, state, and federal governments work is invaluable. Do it! Enjoy! 😊
  12. Memoria Press's literature guides would be right up your alley.
  13. Agree with Jay Wile's Science in the... series. 5 books total. They are just excellent. Memoria Press's offerings are very good, too--particularly the astronomy.
  14. Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull and the new follow-up series to it called Dragonwatch.
  15. Thus Queen Helen found him, and, (upon) finding him, made no public outcry. "Finding him" is adverbial, modifying "made" to signify when no public outcry was made. The sentence is poorly crafted, for sure!
  16. I second the motions for Patty Paper Geometry and for Math Mammoth's geoemetry topicals. Those would make a fantastic combination!
  17. You are not being picky or unreasonable at all. I agree with the concept of a compromise, however. WWS's "weeks" ar four days, correct? On day five, say Friday, she could do creative writing. As it is intended to be used in just this manner, perhaps you might consider using The Creative Writer series. If your daughter sees that "carrot" out in front of her, she may be more willing to do the harder/less fun work to gain that reward. Among the many benefits that stick-to-it-ivity inevitablely brings is that particular feeling of satisfaction that only comes upon reaching a goal, whether great or small. Alternatively, you could even stick her creative writing day in the middle on Wednesday as a leaven in the lump of expository. 😊 I hope things go well for both of you!
  18. I don't know of a course that addresses this specifically, but I think it is a fantastic idea!
  19. Yes, I would do Math Mammoth with the Right Start manipulatives. Best of both worlds!
