  1. Have you had a blood panel run? Low calcium can cause muscle twitches. ETA: Slightly different, but a friend's mother was nearly unable to get out of bed because her legs were so weak and unreliable. She stopped drinking her favorite soda with aspartame, and was cured fairly quickly. Aspartame, soy, and msg can all cause neurological symptoms in people who are sensitive. Could there be a dietary cause?
  2. No candy at all? Because my kids love when I use enjoy life chocolate chips and paint a chocolate mold. Then I put in some almond butter and jelly, and paint over the back. After it hardens in the freezer, it makes a great little bite of something sweet that is just barely on the candy side of candy. I saw that first on Paleo Parents (online), but that page is down now. If you google, there are lots of other easy treats that feel indulgent, but are still paleo. Another favorite we have is truffles. I'm sorry I don't have a link for those either, but google should pull up some options. If those are too much sugar, there are some pretty awesome nut and dried fruit ball recipes out there also. necklace or bracelet brain teaser game (like those wooden or metal ones) sudoku workbook or crossword puzzles stuffed animal crazy socks
  3. I wonder if it is possible to do a lot of the non lab classes online and then transfer to a school to finish.
  4. My kids have had things that *I* thought were symptoms of meningitis, and never been told to go to the ER. If he said go, I would trust him. But, since we are all telling you to stay, I will offer a bit of comfort. I am just getting over a virus of some sort that gave me a splitting headache for about 3 days. I'm still congested and coughing, and when I cough, my head still throbs. I hear this sort of thing is going around. Likely, she is okay. But do stay.
  5. We use fans. The white noise things drive me crazy, but the constant sound of the fan doesn't bother me.
  6. Yes, that's crazy. Maybe we could redo the poll with just one of those pictures linked? Then we would all be working with the same definition.
  7. We'd skip school, too. If it went on very long, I'd consider a switch of materials.
  8. My kids were driving me crazy, and I was getting pretty frustrated. And then they all got sick. And then I remembered that always happens. If this is way out of the norm for your kids, try some vitamin c, probiotics, and gentle, nourishing food. This is the time of year when we all eat too much sugar, and sleep far too little, and the littlest among us often suffer the most. Otherwise, a few good heart to heart conversations to figure out what is bugging them deep down might help you solve it. ETA: Sometimes when my kids go through a "spurt of understanding", and their mental world gets a little bigger, they struggle to apply their newfound ideas nicely. Helping them phrase their concerns has gone a lot farther for us than telling them not to have them. Maybe try repeating back what their tone and body language implied as they spoke, and then give them some options to "be heard" while being respectful.
  9. When I am pregnant, I often feel generally freaked out if I'm not eating enough. Be sure to eat regularly to keep your blood sugars up a bit.
  10. As someone who has experienced a lot of miscarriages, I would suggest you make the care package all about her, with little reference to pregnancy. That way, if things don't go as hoped, she can still enjoy your gift. Sucking on a preggie pop after a miscarriage is going to be really hard. So, maybe a movie, some quick snacks, a gift card to a favorite take out place, etc.
  11. The suddenness would have me wondering a bit about your blood sugar. Any other indicators that might warrant a check-in with your doctor?
  12. If you look at the labels on some brand name kids vitamins on amazon, and compare the amounts to the vitamins in emergen-c, you might get a good idea of how much more than the rda she would be getting. I recently started giving my almost 12 year old girl a basic men's multi-vitamin (so there is no iron, which she doesn't need yet). By weight and comparable dosage, it actually works out about right, and is way cheaper than kid vitamins. Ds will start them soon, as well, and he is 9. I just kept reading the labels until I found one that had appropriate amounts of each thing in it. Also, iirc, most of the things in emergen-c are water soluble, meaning unless the dose is really ridiculously high, the excess is just eliminated in urine with no negative effect on the body.
  13. I have had arm injuries before, and they are exhausting! It is amazing how much more effort it takes to do anything when you only have one hand, even if your dominant hand is okay. Maybe something really relaxing would be helpful. Maybe a movie night gift basket?
  14. Why use lead when you could use chocolate? But I really posted to say Playmobil are really neat.
  15. Poor man's biscotti and cream? I've never had it, but I'm on the "no, thanks" team. I guess I can see the sweet and salty thing, though. I used to dip french fries in milkshakes. That's sort of similar.
  16. Because your hcg level is still probably only about 10-20. It takes 25-50 to get a positive on the digital. Since the numbers double every 48-72 hours, a digital won't be positive for another 2 days at least, maybe even longer.
  17. That's positive. Congrats!
  18. I can't see the pic, but they say a line is a line. I'd just wait a few days, and then test again. The hcg doubles about every 48-72 hours, so the faint line should get darker. Different brands have different levels of sensitivity. I believe the digital tests range from 25-50 whatever the unit is, where some of the line tests will show up faintly as low as 6-8. So, a faint line on a non-digital test might not pop a digital test positive for another week or so. Also, if it was a blue dye test, they do sometimes give a faint line when you are not pregnant, but the pink dye tests are supposedly more accurate. Lastly, if the line didn't appear within the time window in the instructions, or is a grey line instead of dyed, it could be an "evaporation line", which is not a positive.
