  1. Connie, Thank you for this thread. Have you looked at the following chemistry texts, Kotz and for labs Thompson? How would they do for an honors or AP level course? And can you provide feedback on how they compare to Chang's text. Thank you. Alisa Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity - Hybrid/Soft Cover (Edition: 9) James C. Kotz, Paul M. Treichel, John R. Townsend, David A. Treichel ISBN: 128546253X . This paperback version of the text is a hybrid version, with some parts online. Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments (Edition: 1) Robert Bruce Thompson ISBN: 0596514921 . Chemistry and Chemical Reactivity - Hardcover (Edition: 9) John C. Kotz, Paul M. GTreichel, John Townsend, David Treichel ISBN: 1133949649 .
  2. Library teen programs: card games, book club, etc. & at teen room, community theater company, homeschool grp for our county- in programs I organized in my students area of interest- and I follow up w/the mom if they hit it off- live near- and we do more of the stuff they both like & then we share resources and events-that come up, and summer camp/wkend programs in areas of interest held at local universities, e.g., computer science. I have experienced it is the moms and parents that keep friendships going, till the children hit 14 and then they start doing the calling and ask to be taken to their pal's. And yes, that means one would need to early on develop a working relationship with the mom- homeschool and not. if the children are good together- similar interests, and the other parent values their child's friendships and the parents values are similar- you work together for the children's happiness. I might take them to that Star Trek movie and she takes them to that book signing. We take them to a science lecture I found or to an aviation museum event they want to attend and it evolves and keeps going...
  3. Thank you for the explanation. I have been guided by SWB's, The Well Trained Mind: Guide to a Classical Education since age 7. We have used BraveWriter for writing as of late and luckily my student has been able to take writing workshops provided by grants at our library-taught by an author and we found more programs at a local college based community education program. This year we are looking for other programming and am reviewing WTM and Scholars Academy. There is so much to sift through, weighing what each programs offers, which I guess is a good thing.
  4. The writing programs, WWE & WWS, are which online writing provider? Thank you, still learning and reviewing writing course providers. SWB is Susan Wise Bauer?
  5. If she likes videos, have you looked at supercharged science or thinkwell science online programs?
  6. Thank you for this great list of online programs, courses. We have used AOPS online math for Algebra A, B, and Intro to Geometry. We are taking Intermediate Algebra this fall. We have taken several Brave Writer online courses as well. This year we are interested in other writing-language arts programs and AP Online-live interactive courses and looking forward to seeing reviews here. Hoping for feedback from those who have used the Veritas Press Scholars online AP courses and others you can recommend. This is a great resource and will follow.
  7. Thank you for your feedback on the program. We are looking into same because we are interested in a program which has a rigorous solid AP Chemistry course with a live interactive format.
  8. Hoping for feedback regarding the Veritas Press: Scholars Academy High School online programs. Thank you for sharing your experiences & help.
  9. We are looking at ChemAdvantage and the Scholars Online courses for AP Chemistry and have no experience with the PA Homeschoolers or Scholars Online programming. I see a thread here where there are very good reviews for ChemAdvantage, but could not find feedback for the Scholars online program and are interested in how they compare. We are looking for a rigorous AP Chem course online with student/teacher interaction. We currently use AOPS for math- completed Algebra A,B & Intro Geometry, have liked their teachers, rigor, format of classes, assignments and feedback. We used Thinkwell for math in the past and the learning format of videos did not provided for interaction/adequate engagement. They would breeze through, complete all the work-do very well and not delve deep nor be challenged. We are hoping there are those who can provide feedback on the Scholars Online AP Chem course and if any can point out how this course compares with the ChemAdvantage AP course, teacher, rigor, learning experience, feedback, online format & assignments to help with our decision. Thank you, Butterflyhome
