  1. I know your child is young...but for the future. We did Rod and Staff through Grade 10 and learned a great deal (they did these courses prior to high school). Great step by step process on how to write essays. Then onto Essay Styles for High School...wow!!! Love, love, love their programs especially the literature. Check into their Essay Styles program, it is a step by step program and gives the student plenty of help along the way (as well as the teacher)
  2. Check out Epi Kardia...everything is laid out for you step by step http://www.epikardia.com/
  3. We liked "The Slopes of War"...a Novel of Gettysburg by N. A. Perez recommended by Sonlight
  4. Here is a website for Sonlight books listed in Chronological order http://homescool-ed.blogspot.com/2007/04/sonlight-books-arranged-by-well-trained.html Ann in SC
  5. I was just finishing up the year and would like to know how others are separating out their subjects and weighting them. Math for example: how do you do this? 70% tests 20% cummulative end of the year exam 10% daily work What about English? How do you weight compositions compared to tests? Do you include daily work in your total grade? What about science (labs, etc.), History, Literature... I would just like to know what others are doing and how? Thanks, Ann in SC
  6. I talked with the Homeschool Advisor, who has a doctorate in math, and he advised the following... If the student is college bound continue with the original sequence (no separate Geometry course...Alg 1, 2, Adv Math). As long as you finish with Advance Math book, you will cover all the same Geometry as the separate book. (30% in Algebra I, 30% in Algebra II and 40% in Advanced Math) He recommended listing the Advanced math as "Geometry/Trigonometry" on the transcripts to satisfy the admissions counselors. If not college bound (such as Tech school), then he advised taking this separate Geometry course. He said the only reason this course was added was to appease the school teachers. Please feel free to call the 800 number to Saxon and ask for the "Homeschool Advisor". They were extremely nice and helpful
  7. Hello, I would like to focus just on one at a time. Is there something out there for 7th grade that does this? We are currently doing Rod and Staff 7th and Writing Strands 4. Ann in SC
