Mystery of History-love it or hate it?
BettyL replied to Quiver0f10's topic in General Education Discussion Board
As a child and young adult my own history education was so compartmentalized. Biblical history was in a different box in my head than secular history. I love MOH because it puts all of history in one chronological box for my daughter! It works for us! -
I'm sorry I didn't make my post very clear, what I need is the ***answers*** to the worksheets. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything as we go through them. Thank you to anyone who can help!

Does anyone have a link to the answers for the Grammarland worksheets created by Jessica Cain? Thank you in advance!

Any favorite online typing lessons to teach typing?

My dd enjoys BBC typing too - http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/typing/levels/level1.shtml -
What are you using for memory this year?
BettyL replied to Quiver0f10's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We choose chapters from the Bible. Last year she learned all of Psalm 139. -
We've enjoyed using http://www.amazon.com/Great-Ancient-China-Projects-Yourself/dp/1934670022/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311634352&sr=8-1 and http://www.amazon.com/Spend-Day-Ancient-Egypt-Activities/dp/0471290068/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311634419&sr=1-1 and http://www.amazon.com/Famous-Figures-Ancient-Times-Assemble/dp/0981856608/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1311634745&sr=1-1

We use https://www.xtramath.org/home. It's free and my dd does it on her own, just a few minutes a day. I was getting frustrated with her not knowing her facts and it created tension between us. This works for us because it took me out of the equation (no pun intended).

We like this series! http://www.amazon.com/Hero-Tales-Treasury-Stories-Christian/dp/076420078X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1305260447&sr=8-1

That's what we use too! We love it!

To plan our reading program, I perused every childrens' reading list I could find at my dd's reading level, then picked what I thought were the best of the best for us. Next, I gathered tons of free online resources to go with each book and away we went. We enjoyed lapbooking, writing, notebooking, worksheets, art projects and a variety other activities to enhance our reading experiences. Hope you find what's just right for you!

I am currently brushing up with Barron's E-Z English and My Grammar and I....Or Should That Be Me? They have both been very helpful. I wanted at least one book with practice sections to make sure I was retaining what I was reading. One of my favorite parts of homeschooling is MY renewed interest and love for learning. Looking back, I think public school beat the joy of learning out of me. I am thankful for this renewal in my own life!

What a great site! Thank you......

:lurk5: I've wondered this myself.......

Great ideas, Arliemaria! We own a camper and do get away for a few weeks at local state parks. We were thinking about trying to take the time to make a big tipi for our backyard to play and sleep in :)

We do plan to continue with our nature journal. We are a painting, drawing, pastel and clay kind of family, but I never thought to take it outside! What a wonderful idea! We are moving to a new home (just across the street) and will now have a deck! That will be perfect for many of these activities!

Thank you for your replies thus far! We live in a very rural part of the country and have no summer camps, day camps or co-op opportunities. We are counted on to create our own fun!

I have planned an 8 week vacation from our school schedule this summer! Although I'm excited about the time to rejuvenate, I don't want these 8 weeks to be wasted. I suppose I feel that if I don't create some plans ahead of time the summer will just slip away. What projects, artistic pursuits, units studies or activities have you enjoyed with your kiddos over the summer months?

How long is your only child's school day?
BettyL replied to GoVanGogh's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We spend an average of 4-5 hours each school day to complete our goals. We take the day in two chunks of time. Our schedule usually runs 10-12, then 1-3. It works well for us to have the break in the middle too. -
Lapbooking resources to use with ANY chapter book

We start our school day with listening to the dramatized Bible on CD while we color in special coloring books saved for this occasion or create with clay. It's a fun way to get focused for the day. When we are done listening to a few chapters we talk about what we learned from the text then pray. It helps to get our day started on the right foot!

In the CLE website under "browse curriculum" there is a tab for diagnostic tests to order. Is this what you're looking for?

Just a huge shout out for MOH!
BettyL replied to k2bdeutmeyer's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree:We are excited to start MOH here next month! I've purchased many interesting activity, reading and read aloud books to enhance the journey. We plan to complete only half of Volume I this year to leave plenty of room for rabbit trails.
