  1. I think I know what we're doing and I've ordered most of it alot is a continuation of what we've been using. Continuing with RightStart math for 4 students most are between levels so we will do G/H, E/F, B/C, and A. Calculadders for all kids (math drill) All About Spelling levels 1, 4 (probably into 5), and 5 All About Reading 2/3 for 2nd grader Foundational Phonics letter Master for K4 (this is a good bridge between AAR pre and 1) Simply Charlotte Mason History Matthew through Acts and Ancient Rome this includes European geography everybody will do this Just reading Our Star Spangled Story pt 2. 2nd, 5th, 7th. The bigs read it to little. I know it's "below level" for 2 but it's just exposure and Rome is our focus. Oldest burns out really fast on school and America the Beautiful just looks long and dense for him.... Simply Charlotte Mason Enrichment trying out the year 3 plan... I've always just done it on my own but with a baby I thought a plan may be nice. We may sub out some artists though Reading books I pick for literature SCM outdoor secrets science I've done this before for 2nd grade and K4 Apologia land animals with notebook for 5th grader she loved botany this year Trying out Berean Builders science in the atomic age for 7th grader Writeshop B and E for 2nd, 5th, and 7th Analytical Grammar original edition for 5th and 7th Spanish for children for 5th SCM copybook readers for 2nd Montessori grammar symbols 2nd and 7th mostly I'm not good at assigning written narrations or writing across the curriculum so we're trying a writing program.... we'll see how it goes. The 2nd graders Grammer will be informal. I'll just teach verbs nouns...as far as we get with his copywork. All the kids take turns doing oral narrations during family Bible and history time. Undecided Continue with A Year of Playing Skillfully for PreK or do Wee Folk Art? I was going to do Wee Folk Art but now I'm leaning toward AYOPS. I have both....
  2. Someone should tell me how to unquote an accidental quote;) I really like science in the beginning. I am thinking of using it with 2 kids in 3rd and 6th grade in a year....I wouldn't really use it with a 1st grader unless she just tagged along. I am planning to use outdoor secrets from Simply Charlotte again next year for my little ones in 2nd and prek. I think 2nd is a bit old for it (k or 1st is best IMHO) but he loves insects, his nature journal, amphibians, reptiles ect and is learning about plants and animals all the time with no curriculum....
  3. Thanks for the update @knitgrl I've found sticking to what we've been using is easiest for me too. I was pregnant with baby 6 and tired and a bit busy with a preschooler and 2 in elementary and a dyslexic 6th grader.... I tried switching math and some other stuff to more independent....we switched back to RightStart and AAS. Both are "time consuming" but we're overall easier and faster than my more independent switches:) funny right;)
  4. @BusyMom5 I like the American Language Series readers. You can get them at rainbow resource. They follow a similar phonogram progression as AAR and the stories are short. I've used various ones of the books often. You could pick out one at her level. Also AAR has extra book suggestions somewhere on their website. All about learning press has lots of printable games on their website too. For other independent type stuff, I like Montessori. I have printable pink blue and green phonics sets I got from a British teacher off TPT. I have also bought some "real" Montessori stuff. I love the sandpaper letters and numbers, the movable alphabet and rug, the multiplication board with all the x tables on it to fill in. They have grammar stuff too....
  5. I have to say that I love RightStart math. My current 1st grader did a in Kindergarten but was not ready for b I didn't think last fall so I did math with confidence 1 with him this year. In the last month it has seemed way to slow so next year we are going back to RightStart. Little sis will slowly do level A for K4 in the fall. She is ready, but I'm not going to push to finish it. I think all my kids will be in the middle of math books when we break for summer....I think I'm getting better at going at their pace. I find this annoying, but they all needed a bit of extra drill and practice this year.... Don't be a slave to curriculum and tweak to fit...there is no perfect one.... No matter how old the student is;) I've really internalized that this year. Also your teaching style and preference is as if not more important than what the child likes. If you teach it well to your student it will likely work!
  6. @Paige I really like the American Language Series readers. I've never used the whole program, but it has the rest of LA in it. https://www.rainbowresource.com/category.jhtm?cid=6704 I would definitely say it's more than just kindergarten. It covers all phonograms just not multisyllabic words.
  7. O the yellow is the sun book and game book may have enough ideas for you also without needing the whole curriculum...
  8. My son struggled with all that in K as well. I stopped using MWC K and used RightStart A from the beginning. It totally clicked for him. We then did MWC 1 and are almost done. He needed the slower 1st grade. I am planning RightStart B into C for fall....he seems to get it all now. I have all of RightStart from my older kids.
  9. I got this reply to my email asking about scheduling of the new analytical grammar. "It is no longer a three-season schedule. Each book can be done in the amount of weeks to match the number of lessons. Book One is 11 weeks. Book Two is 16 weeks. Book Three has a 30 week schedule Book Four has a 26 week schedule Book Five has a 29 week schedule." I'm not sure how they divided up for the new lessons so maybe they just split up the old ones?.... I just got PDF student stuff for the rest of my kids so I didn't have to think about it;)
  10. Yes that's what I found out too. Except they the last 3 former seasons are now divided into a year's worth of lessons each year....so not as condensed.... At least that what I saw.
  11. Math Mammoth has videos for most topics online. The worktexts are written to the student. She has placement tests. The texts are a bit cluttered but you are encouraged to only do half the problems then do the rest only if you need more practice. You could slow down Notgrass from Adam to Us and add more side trips into ancient history and go on as you want to.
  12. Guess what....this changed too!;) Math finish RightStart E and do F.....I like Rightstart and everyone in the same program is so nice! WriteShop E with older brother ( 20 weeks) Original Analytical Grammar with older Brother (10 weeks) All About Spelling 3 and 4 Apologia land animals by herself with journal Books I hand her to read I found Spanish for her Classical Academic press Spanish for children! Rest is same;)
  13. I have changed up 2nd as well. I'm trying to keep everyone in similar curriculum to help everything go smoothly with a baby. I'm scrapping the Cottage Press Primers. He has spelling, nature study, and copywork elsewhere and just needs narration practice... I'll pick a book with short chapters and do it a few times a week... We're also trying WriteShop B. He likes creative writing so we'll see. Math is back to RightStart...I really like it better and I think he can handle it now. It will be B or C or a combination of both. Science is Let's Talk Science 2 physical science. It's light and fun. His sister did it for 2nd and has fond memories of it. He saw it and wanted to try it. The rest is the same.
  14. I think AG sounds like a better fit. The original surely though! The new one is full years! Look fast;) It is on sale now. I'm using it for my 5th grader next year as well as dyslexic 7th grader.
  15. I like Notgrass for a good overview. I have been having my kids just read the textbooks (2-3 X a week) without any assignments on their own. They tell me about what they read most every time in addition they may draw something or record something in their book of centuries. As a family, we are using Simply Charlotte mason Joshua through Judges and Ancient Greece. I read about the 1-3 grade books and family books. 1X a week the older kids read from their Ancient Greece book. It is a lighter course in terms of reading. It's perfect for us now though. We are learning tons of Bible and getting an overview of Greece which is all I want now. You could look into Simply Charlotte Mason medieval history. I love the spine particularly! We used it a few It's all year long but you may be able to read 1/2 of Notgrass as well as do the 4-6 grade medieval assignments kind of like we are doing. Notgrass is an interesting, not to hard read.
  16. I changed alot so reposting Not sure how I accidentally quoted the above or how to remove it... Math RightStart G finish and do H Calculadder math drills Math games with little siblings Analytical grammar with little sister (10 weeks) WriteShop E with little sister (20 week schedule) All About Spelling level 4 may start 5 we're plugging along slowly Berean builders science in the atomic age were trying no cd. He said he'd rather read. Notgrass America the Beautiful pt 2 with other books assigned for literature l assign Simply Charlotte Mason Matthew through Acts and Ancient Rome as a family. This has visits to Europe geography which we'll do. Simply Charlotte Mason Enrichment 3 (I'm trying preplanned we'll see. It has art, handicrafts, hymns character...I have most of the books already)
  17. I liked the old so thanks for the heads up ... I'm set now with digital student books to cover us all;) I love the season schedule and the update lost this:(
  18. JAG original is still likely available...I think it may be on sale at Demme even...
  19. I've heard Winston grammar recommended for dyslexia I think. It uses shapes right?
  20. Another thought. You can get math mammoth in color from rainbow resource or Lulu. It might be easier to look at;) it's more expensive though, but still like $50 for a year of math;)
  21. I don't think easy grammar has diagramming. https://www.rainbowresource.com/category/1750/Easy-Grammar-Series.html I'm using Analytical grammar (original) with my dyslexic son. I like the pace and no overkill grammar all year long. He was not quite ready in the fall so we did Rod and Staff 5 mostly orally. You certainly could skip the diagramming in rod and staff, but it is sure there;) we did a lot of it....counted it as writing.
  22. I just reread your question. BJU is supposed to be teacher dependent. Like only practice is in the workbook. The teaching is in the teacher manual or videos. If he wants videos you could try that.... Some say you can skip from BJU 6 to prealgebra. Some say you can not. I've personally never used BJU math. This is just what I've heard.
  23. He could do odd or even problems in math mammoth. It is written to the student and explains why very well. She also has videos online if he needs a bit of help on something. She even says not to use all the problems. CLE is more procedural and much less conceptual than math mammoth. What doesn't he like about math mammoth??
  24. K math with confidence is gentle and fun and has been done with some 4 yr olds. The 1st grade book has been great for my current 6 yr old. He's really memorizing his math facts. I love RightStart and have used it with other kids A-G. RightStart A is super interactive and really gets to the interesting math. You could keep it up or switch out after A or B or C.... I am planning it for fall for my almost 4 yr old. We will go at her pace;) If you want planned out nature/crafty fun for science ect a fun one is Wee Folk Art https://weefolkart.com/homeschool-homepage/ It would go onto classical later just fine. I might use it with my 4 yr old next year if I have time;) she will have 5 siblings.....
  25. We do some in the morning some in the afternoon (I think it will all be afternoon next year;) and we're going to start it this summer. The kids don't think of it as school. So I was going to spread it into summer so we don't have to do it all every school day. I am just going to take as long as necessary to go through it..... otherwise we never get to art and some handicrafts.... O I've never tried their schedule...just done my own thing with SCM stuff. For instence we've done their art cards since my son was in K. We sporadically use laying down the rails, we use the scripture memory system and cards almost every morning. We use SCM hymn book about 2X a week.... We've used different art. I'm getting a schedule for next year. That's what is starting this summer. The kids like the looks of the art.
