  1. We chose Elemental Science, the Intro to Science which is K5-1st. http://elementalscience.com/collections/intro-to-science We wanted to cover a variety of topics in science this first year. This version only has six weeks of zoology so not enough for your daughter. I would probably follow the animal per week and at the end of the year, take a field trip to the zoo if you're close to one.
  2. Thank you for your responses. I really appreciate your advice. Farrar: It is nice to know that I am not alone. She did the same thing with the few books that I assigned. How many books do you plan to assign this year? stlily: I recently listened to a Read Aloud Revival podcast. I think you're right, big kids like to be read to and need it just as much as the littles... I was also thinking of having her pick a good chapter book a few grade levels above her littlest sister and have this child read aloud to the younger one.
  3. Hello. I am new here... So forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong area. My daughter will enter seventh grade this year. Her sixth grade year was her first year of homeschool. I am struggling with helping her to find passion for reading. She will not naturally pick up a book to read and would really rather do just about anything else. Every time, we check out a book from the library, she will start the book and then then tell me that she doesn't like the book for whatever reason. I am beginning to think she is just giving me excuses. Her reading level and comprehension is at grade level if not above. So she is not struggling with a learning disability. I gave her assigned reading last year and she completed the assignments. Certainly, I can do the same this year but I would really love for her to enjoy books. Do you have any suggestions to help her find passion with reading?
