  1. Ok, so dd who's 7 and a MAJOR drama queen when it comes to pain, just cut her big toe a little bit on a garden rake. It took me 20 minutes to convince her to let me wash it with peroxide, and she screamed the whole time I was doing it. She just really hates anything that resembles even a little bit of pain. When I was finished I googled cleaning wounds with peroxide, and now they advise not to do that anymore but only use soap and water. Now I'm feeling pretty mean for having put her through that unnecessary drama. WWYD? Does anyone use peroxide anymore? Do you always wash out wounds, no matter how small, or do you leave some of them alone because it's not worth the tears?
  2. I got pregnant with dd3 when dd2 was 8 months. My milk started drying up and I switched dd2 to whole milk around 10-11 months. She has never had any issues from not waiting until her 1st birthday.
  3. We live in a rural area, leave the lights off, and have never had anyone come to our door. It's just like any other night for us-eat supper and put the kiddos to bed as soon as possible. :-)
  4. I like making a large sub sandwich on French bread and serving that with soup. Pile with cold cuts, sliced cheese, veggies, mayo, oil and vinegar or whatever sauces your family likes. Carrots, cucumbers, pepper strips, etc. with dip are another good choice instead of a salad. We like cold applesauce with soup, as well.
  5. Cornbread and buttermilk Swiss Rolls Moon Pies Lemon Sandwich Cookies-what better way was there to eat these than to scrape out the filling and eat it first? Hamburger Helper-my mom let me pick one each week to practice cooking
  6. Our 5 kids, ages 6 months to 7 years, are all usually in the bed around 8. That early bedtime leaves me time to unwind and wrap up loose ends before the next intense day begins.
  7. For the last birth (our fifth), we got back into school a week later. It's amazing how great you feel even one week after giving birth, compared to those last few months of pregnancy! I have been blessed with babies that generally sleep well at night, which really helps. If I were up most of the night with a fussy newborn I probably wouldn't be so ready to start back. I just really appreciate routine and order and start feeling like I'm going to crawl out of my skin if things get too chaotic. I'd rather have the children on a schedule and in school than have more time to sleep in and then everything fall apart the rest of the day.
  8. Yeah, I was the over-zealous first-time homeschooling mom who started her in 1st grade at 5. That's why she's so young and going into third grade. She's not doing third grade math yet, though, since she had a few workbooks to finish up from last year. I signed her up for xtramath today and she LOVED doing the drills, so I think I'll add that to her math routine. We may also slow down a bit in CLE but I really don't want to abandon it completely. She actually did really well on her lesson today and seems to understand the concepts pretty well. I think the fact that she can't recall most of the subtraction facts is her main handicap. Thanks for all the great ideas and suggestions!
  9. Not a curriculum, but great books to read aloud: Let's Read and Find Out Series. Although they're not Christian, a black Sharpie was all I needed to get rid of the small amount of objectionable material I found.
  10. Thanks for all the replies! I will have to check into some of the resources y'all recommended and see if any of them would be a good fit for DD. Homeschoolmama37, no I probably haven't been using the flashcards as much as I should, although I do use them some. I know I should pull those out more often; just trying to juggle everything that has to get done in a day, and sometimes those get pushed to the bottoms of the list.
  11. Hi all, this is my first post besides introductions although I've lurked here for awhile and gotten some great ideas. I have a 7 year old who is doing 3rd grade this year. She's very bright, loves to read, is super excited about starting school (we started on Monday). Already though, the math woes have begun. We're doing CLE and she has a few more books from 2nd grade to finish up. She seems to do fine with learning new concepts, but simple subtraction is really a problem. She gets overwhelmed by just a line or two of addition and subtraction facts. I honestly feel that if she knew her facts better it wouldn't slow her down as much. Should I take a break for a few weeks and just focus on really drilling those with her? If so, what would be the best way to do that?
  12. I've been on here quite a bit in the last year or so and gotten lots of good info on homeschooling. We'll be starting our 4th year this fall with a 3rd grader, K5 student and a K4 student, as well as a 2 year old and 5 month along for the ride.
