  1. I totally get this. Every week I hear about people at church who are sick and still scheduled to led something and I know they are coming....kinda sick. We have skipped tons this winter to avoid them all. DH said it's bad at work and they are sending people home if you appear sick/act sick/wear a mask/cough at all. He's passing out Wellness formula to anyone who acts sick lol. She made a commitment. She's not sick. I think it's fair to wear a glove...the grocery workers often do. She could even ask about wearing a mask...they may say no b/c it makes it look like she is sick, not her protecting herself. My area does have a lot of people wearing masks but it wouldn't feel normal in other areas of the country from my experience. I agree to wash hands constantly and be alert to avoid the super sick people who won't stay home. You aren't crazy, but she needs to learn to manage this.
  2. I didn't want to come home in college. I loved the environment, the people, the experiences. I don't know what to expect when my kids head off to college but I get it. I'm sorry you are sad. ((HUGS))
  3. I'm not normally into those type of movies but I heard it was good so I took dd. LOVED it!! I went back 3 days later with DD and DH to see it again. I've been listening to the soundtrack daily HAHAHA It's simply awesome. I saw a video of rehearsal where he wasn't supposed to sing due to skin cancer surgery recovery but he was so emotionally overwhelmed he joined in for the last song anyway. He clearly loves to sing!! I was impressed by a lot in this movie. I have it on pre-order to purchase...my poor family.
  4. We have a lot of ideas, but nothing nailed down yet or paid for. Our lease is up end of June. We have discussed for a year about moving closer to DH's work. So for now, we are camping in mid June. May move late June. Until we decide about the move July is wide open. (hope to decide early May) DS is applying to YCC at Yellowstone and we will know if he gets in by April. DD will do a horse camp in mid August. I'd like to see DS get a job if he doesn't do YCC. Again, can't do it until we decide about the move since it would be at least 30 min from here. And DS doesn't drive, so if we don't move close to shops or a bus line I don't know he could work. Yep, it's a mess waiting on this decision.
  5. If it's in winter, go swim with the manatees in Crystal River. Worth every dime. Amazing experience!!
  6. Yep. I've heard you can email and ask for a 'discount' on the classes or labs if you are a former Landry customer. Not use any old credits, but get a little 'discount'. That turned me off as well. You know you owe me money but you want me to pay some for a class? Nope.
  7. Jean, I hope you are having a good day. I had a lovely time Wednesday. We should try to get together again soon. With some others :-)
  8. both my kids are ahead in math, so science is what they want. my boy: Environmental(9th), Biology(10th), Chemistry(11th) AND Geology(11th), ?? for 12th My girl: Biology (9th), Chemistry(10th) AND Astronomy (10th), Physics(11th), some advanced Physics(12th)
  9. I have a kid who doesn't want any of my editing or advice for his papers. Let's just say his writing teacher online has been so gracious in her responses to his lack of mechanics ;-) he's repeating a course this spring b/c of his unwillingness to let me or anyone proofread.
  10. I actually was part of a group meeting with SWB yesterday while she was in town for a talk. I saw this in person and asked her about high school kids and what makes it better than R&S. SWB suggested R&S long ago b/c it was the best option at the time. She feels like the sample sentences for the advanced grammar topics aren't relative to how we actually speak. The idea is to learn the definition of a grammar rule and have an example to learn from. R&S was weak here b/c their sentences were so awkward. SWB did suggest anyone 5+ grade and up could benefit from the lessons. It has a core text book and then has student workbooks that have different sample sentences so you can use it multiple years. The core text is the main info to learn.
  11. so sad to hear of your loss. You didn't fail her, you were doing all you could. Yes, heaven has made her perfect and the normal she longed for. Praying for you as you grieve. :grouphug:
  12. National Allergy has a lot of different ones and you can always get a coupon easily for them. there are always super nice ones that are out of reach $$ wise. We opted to get something affordable. We have 2 Whirlpool in the larger rooms with Hepa and carbon filters. I just spent $200 to replace the Hepa and carbon filters(enough for the entire year) for both. I clean the Hepa and use it for 2 years. We replace the carbon every 3 months or sooner. Then each bedroom has the Idyllis filters. Again, hepa and carbon pre filter. I think I spend over $100 to get everything replaced this spring and have some extra pre filters for this year. It's an investment. Our Whirlpool machines are from 2003. Still running fine. We could have bought something more expensive but when we looked at the costs of carbon filters and Hepa filters we decided to go basic and be able to keep up with replacements down the road. It does filter a lot. I'm always surprised by how much is on those pre filters! Our house also has an air purifier as part of the heating unit.
  13. I have one too! It's truly amazing and I marvel at how anyone can make something so short and simple become this drawn out and complicated event. It's not just school either.
  14. Dh listed 6 items last week. 3 have paid and we have shipped. 1 asked to pay next week. It's not too much so Dh is waiting to see. Dh opened complaint at Ebay. No reply from either. Sent email today. 1 replied with awful English about not having money. Well, we think that is what it said. Will wait 24 more hours and then follow through with Ebay's policies and relist the item. Never a word from the last one.... I don't get why you would bid and not pay. It's such a waste of our time. I'd tell you to move along as Ebay says you can
  15. ok the CARY comment is funny. Long ago IBM moved to Raleigh and all these Yankees moved with them. I worked with several women whose husbands worked with IBM. They were all long time IBM people and yes, they had all moved down from the north. We have lived in Raleigh area before(twice), and a short stint in Cary/Morrisville area as well. I love the area. Loads of trees. Easy to get between the cities, although like anywhere traffic is always getting worse. Cary was your typical suburb and very family friendly. I liked the neighborhoods there but most are HOA, so while charming b/c it looks nice, some look a lot alike. It's the trees that make it so nice though. We loved all our friends that lived out in Cary, just good people. Even if many were from the north. NC has so many people moving to it, I doubt the yankee comment can be applied like it used to be long ago. There is hiking in that region as well as mountain biking. Think rolling hills, not steep mountains. Which makes it nice to get outside when it's not too hot/humid. Museums in Raleigh and Durham. We haven't lived in the area for a long time now, but we liked it a lot. Sadly it just didn't work out for us to stay(job related stuff). We would move back to that area in a heartbeat. I know you said you are visiting a friend in Charlotte...I like Raleigh area much better than Charlotte(lived there for high school).
  16. I'm glad to hear the story was bunked. Curious if there is more research into this though. Obviously the device makers aren't going to do it.
  17. I'm definitely changing my phone habits in regards to it being in the room where I sleep. That's pretty compelling evidence about electronics giving off something that isn't good for our bodies. It made me wonder if computers have the same effect. Sitting in front of one all day can't be good either but it's how dh makes his living! I put my phone in the living room last night. I didn't hear the alarm at first this morning and I was so stiff it was hard to get up and move to the living room to shut it off LOL. I want to buy an old school alarm clock now. But it leads to the electronic question...is it an issue as well? What is the line in the sand about electronics being close to us?? I'm moving where it stays at night, but I just have so many more questions. I need to go get some wheatgrass and set up seeds all around the house near the electronics LOL
  18. I'm thinking and planning alright. I'll have an 11th grader who doesn't like school and a 10th grader who'd like to graduate early. After the last few years of more and more online classes, we are pulling back next year and most everything will be at home. I am open to the 11th grader trying Dual Enrollment come January and he's 17, but who knows what he will want. Both kids will be taking SAT and ACT this next year and studying for those. ETA: he wants geology/archeology for an elective. Done. We might do a weapons elective as well. Research and write about it. 11th grade boy Pre-Calc(maybe self graded Derek Owens option) BJU American Lit/So Verbose or IEW writing World Geography Chemistry and some electives ..... 10th grade girl pre-Calc(Derek Owens) BJU American Lit/So Verbose or IEW writing Biblioplan Modern World/US history & lit Chemistry Astronomy(yep, 2 sciences) art class
  19. when I waited tables in college, if it was snowing you had to choose to stay the shift or leave to go home. If you stayed the shift they fed you, put you up in a hotel within walking distance, and then you had to work the next morning shift. Due to safety you couldn't just go home, you agreed to work, stay overnight in the hotel, and work in the morning. I appreciated their concern about staff and that they offered to pay for the food/hotel. I worked at an OB office long ago and we had 24 inches fall with no warning...they were saying flurries...so no one had stocked up on food, etc. I had 4x4 and the office manager knew that. I had to go in and and pick her up on the way. ticked me off. I get people keep having babies but the Dr's were there, they didn't need my help! It's weird how some places are so unconcerned and others do care. If the news is saying not to go out, I would want something in writing from the boss saying they will cover your losses when you wreck LOL
  20. Apologia physical is chemistry and physics through earth science topics. It's 8th, maybe 9th grade level. I'd skip it and just aim for chemistry and physics at the HS level
  21. I know it feels to you like you are behind where your kids are this year based on your goals, but in the scope of their entire education it's not super important. We have moved in late October and started school Nov 1 but still ended in late May. (great year by the way) We have moved mid March with only a month warning. Not ideal situation ever! We have moved September and started school in October. Life happens. My advice: soon as you start packing, pack up school. Kids deal with change differently. Kids handle stress differently. I tried doing school. I tried doing just the major stuff. I tried just packing it all up and finishing later. Packing it all up and finishing later was the most successful decision. Which means you could pack up a little later than just you packing. Put away school and put the kids to packing with you !! Time it so you aren't sitting around with nothing to do for a week b/c everything is packed lol. I've been there and wanted to have grander plans than life was ever going to allow. Your kids aren't behind at their ages. Don't worry about the bar. Stop trying to jump for it. Kids will get there eventually at their own pace. You seriously need to focus on the crazy life you are about to go through. Remember divorce/death/moving are the top stresses in life. Your kids haven't experienced this before correct? You need the downtime to get through it without everyone melting down. hope your move goes well
  22. I second Biblioplan. We did 6 years of SL and my dd opted to move to Biblioplan. It's just the history/Bible/geography though. You would need to pick another science. If you want to spend more time in a subject go to Apologia. Or just spend more time with SL science going to the library for more books about the subjects you like.
  23. my dd always liked the uniform catalog from Lands End/LLBean. There was a year we bought a bunch of polos and she wore those with beige pants or skirt. It was her desire lol. We did a lot of field trips when younger and honestly it did look nice. We received less questions about being out of school when dressed nicer ;-)
  24. I've been debating on doing this. Debating between the two. I look forward to hearing which one you prefer
