  3. Well, it never was about our house.....it was about the seller running into an issue with the mortgage company trying to collect about $500 above what the pay off statement stated. The bank cleared it and paid the mortgage off in full. Since Dh and I had decided to pay it, it is a big relief to us to not have to come up with that extra money.

  4. Oh my. I agree with the others, I would have called a lot sooner. Actually I would have called after the first growl and not even attemped to keep it in the yard or anything. On a separate note, give what you posted, I would be a little freaked out that such a dangerous animal was returned home without ANY requirement or citation of the owner, at minimum. That dog could seriously injure or kill someone.

  5. Do you usually get paid on fridays? If so maybe they just wanted bonuses to line up w normal payday schedule. Or simply the Friday before Christmas. Holding the check for a few days doesn’t seem like a hardship. Heck, when dh worked he’d learn his bonus number in March and receive it about 5 weeks later. Some folks never receive a bonus their entire career.

  6. Dawn, I'm so sorry about your mom! The WTM baked oatmeal is in the oven, and I'll get the kids up after it's done. Today, ds will do a bit of school, then we are headed out for lunch and to go Christmas shopping. We'll get back for a quick dinner and will have to go to church.

  7. Howdy. I fell asleep last night waiting for my kids to finish their homework. We were all behind on sleep. Woke up at 3:something. It's gonna be a long day. I'm not sure if my kids finished their homework or not. I'll have to go wake them up early and find out. Yay. I should have just gone back to sleep when I got up, but I started checking my emails and decided I needed to get on the computer. Now it's almost 6. I have a vague feeling of doom about today's work ... not sure why other than I'm still behind on everything. I hope I get a bunch done and keep everyone happy

She is; I looked up all the tests she ordered -- thyroid, autoimmune stuff, liver stuff, rheumatoid arthritis (we have history), complex metabolic panel (vs. just basic), a couple of other things I don't remember, but basically as I read about each one.....she is covering all the bases. I am so grateful.

  10. I would have called animal control right away, as soon as the dog growled at me. An agressive dog on the loose is a danger to itself and others. I have taken dogs home to owners and taken some to vets- but I am honestly not ever, ever going to mess with a pit bull off leash. I know people love them, and many are good dogs- but the ones that aren't- are like a loaded gun.

  12. Good morning! It's frosty and sunny here and I'm the only one up. Dh left hours ago and kids are still asleep. Dd has some light schoolwork to do. Errand day for me! Zillions of errands! Going to one part of town to do many things. Contemplating taking ds with me. To do, besides errands: Order one gift for dd? Thought about it, but my original idea is too expensive and will be better as a birthday gift next yr. Get butter out to soften and make dough for pecan cookies. Call mom Figure out dinner. Dd to choir practice. Make grocery list

  14. She's moving in with you while she looks for a place to live? Is that right? Be very, very careful. We moved my mum in with us (against my better judgement, but we couldn't rent something in her name in her absence) while she looked for a place to live . She found fault with every place that we found for her to live, and she finally ended up living with us for two years. Of course nothing was as nice as our house...... I finally cracked, researched care homes, told her that she could no longer live with us and gave her the choice of which one to move into. She has the money. I

  15. Busy day. The highlight was that I cleaned up the house for a Real Estate agent 'walk-through" to get feedback about all the stuff we need to do. Not a fun interview at all. At least I didn't punch her out. I was pretty stressed, and she kept talking about how she sold a house just like ours 2 doors down. I'm very proud of myself for all the cleaning I did, and my self-control during the walk-through. I'm enjoying a well-earned glass of wine and caramel popcorn. Mindfulness in action. I"m living in the moment! 😉

  16. I just want to put this out there to congeal my thoughts, see if anyone finds it interesting, whatever. The challenge has been the bright IQ driving a NEED for independence and something to learn but the ASD2 holding back problem solving, EF, ability to pull it together. It means whatever is passive or easy or obvious or in the perseverative interest (right now Zelda) is what happens. Meanwhile, I met http://jimtaylorknowsautism.com at OCALICON, and he really challenged me (I had ds with me) on what we could do to help ds HELP HIMSELF with his boredom. I thought about some more co

  17. I don't see the problem. So they gave you the checks at an earlier date than the date of the check because it was a convenient occasion to hand it to everybody in person. What's tacky about that? Would it have been better to have everybody come in Friday to pick up their checks? But then, I never had a job where there were bonuses, so what do I know.
    6 points
  18. I don't know why you consider it tacky. It was probably most convenient to give out the bonus checks at the luncheon when most employees would be present, but that doesn't mean the money has been deposited into the account to cover all the checks yet. Maybe they just want all the money to come out after a certain date for accounting or business reasons. As someone whose family rarely, if ever, gets bonus checks, I wouldn't complain about having to wait a few days unless you'd prefer they just not bother to give a bonus at all. My bank will not accept post dated checks, even with online ba

  19. I bought Christmas stamps at the post office despite not having Christmas cards or letter in my possession. Hope springs eternal! I was putting groceries on the checkout thing at Aldi and dropped the container of Greek yogurt on the floor, breaking the lid and squirting yogurt all over. Sigh. The Aldi guy didn't even miss a beat - he opened the next register, called another employee, and had the yogurt cleaned up in about 30 seconds. Meanwhile, a customer behind me sent her daughter back to get me a new yogurt.

  22. Morning. MRI results didn't show anything in my shoulder, but which I take it that the structures found there were pretty much normal. So after a billion tests, no one knows why I have a lump of something in my shoulder that causes that side of my neck to swell up. But it's not cancer. I'm going to call it George and say it's my internal editor.

  24. So sorry she is going through all this. My ds 17 had several years of stomach pain. After ruling out all the stomach and digestive system related possibilities, he ended up doing really well with anxiety/stress treatment. The stomach and brain are very closely linked. We just saw a pediatric concussion specialist yesterday, and it was the most informative appointment I've ever sat through. Part of our brain called the amygdala can become stimulated non-stop, which causes a constant state of stress on the body. This constant stress can cycle downward into feeling pain (in stomach, heart),

  25. Oh the poor thing! I'd be calling daily to ask about cancellations at the pediatric GI office. Seriously, call daily. People do cancel. And you probably know this, but celiac can go hand in hand with hashimotos.

When my mother passed, her body and soul were so very tired, and it brought me great peace and joy to think of her as strong, healthy, and whole in heaven. I’ve never seen a piece of art display my belief as clearly as the statue does. Thank you for sharing that. May you feel the Lord's comfort and peace during your season of loss.

  30. I do like it. It has become very popular in the last few years and I do think it has to do with the popularity of modern farmhouse home decor. The other thing I see really picking up this year is gnomes as decor. The more they resemble Santa, the better. Both are big improvement over poop emoji, IMO, a trend that seems (thank God) to be waning. I made this a couple years ago when I discovered an old red truck in our pile of Hot Wheels:

  33. I don’t want to start a debate. Please understand that is not my intent. I find this to be unhealthy advice for anyone. The OP isn’t responsible for stopping the temper tantrums. That’s her mom’s responsibility, and may bot even be her mom’s desire. The OP only needs to be responsible for her own action and reactions. Accepting responsibility for other people’s actions creates a co dependent situation at best and an abusive situation at worst. The OP doesn’t need to develop the habit of taking responsibility for defusing situations that her adult parent is creating. The end result is unhe

When I reviewed the work, it was done so half-a$$ed ... then kid took forever to come downstairs. (This is the kid I just made a mental health appt for.) We fixed the homework, left a little late to drive to school, but maybe they won't get a tardy due to the horrible roads. Ugh! 2 more mornings before break, which can't come fast enough !!!! They have a math test today and tomorrow, so that should be interesting.

  37. I would presume it's just a payroll/accounting thing that really doesn't have anything to do the funding of the check. And, I would just cash it anyway. I am pretty sure the date written on the check is actually irrelevant in terms of banks cashing it. It's not illegal for the bank to cash a check dated 12/20 on 12/18

  42. Reading children's/YA books, and ones you've already read in English, are both good ways to immerse yourself, read more fluently, and pick up more vocab by context rather than having to look everything up. Google translate is great for single-word definitions (not sentences or phrases!), especially for Spanish where they seem to have uploaded a Spanish-Spanish dictionary - so often even if it doesn't have an English translation for a word (or just a bad one), they'll have a ton of fine-tuned definitions for the word in Spanish, just like you'd find in a regular dictionary. I tend to look up

  43. Wow, that sounds difficult. I'd get her set up as much as possible to have lots of support from other people/agencies. (The local Metro Mobility (if she can't drive), the grocery delivery service, the local senior center, etc. etc.) I think one of those fall buttons is a good idea. It does sound like an apartment in a senior facility would be her best option. My dad is the opposite. He's 92 and still wants to do everything himself. We (my siblings and I and even my children) keep pushing him to accept more help, but he is stubborn! I finally convinced him to let me climb a ladde

  45. It's been years since I've read any of the books but I do remember the journey with the 'ring' began in the Hobbit, so it seems the best place to begin is at the beginning. Perhaps we can do a book a quarter so those who are interested can join in, where ever, depending on what book they are on. 1st quarter the Hobbit (possibly start mid January) 2nd quarter Fellowship of the Ring, 3rd Quarter Two Towers, and 4th Quarter Return of the King. Wow- lots of interesting books in your Last in Series and Set in Scotland reads. Several authors I haven't read, so will have to check them out.

I think the only Hawthorne I've read is yes, The Scarlet Letter and also The House of the Seven Gables. I finally read Moby-Dick this year and quite enjoyed it; and along with that I read Why Read Moby-Dick, which talked a lot about what a fan-boy crush Melville had on Hawthorne. One of my favorite house tours in Concord is The Old Manse, which was owned by Emerson but where Hawthorne lived for a while w

We have an appt Jan 8th with a neurologist; she absolutely agreed/suggested it as definitely warranted. They will decide then if h
