  3. I'd take Florastor while on an antibiotic and for a few days afterwards. I'd also try to eat some fermented (probiotic rich) food everyday.
  4. I don’t really limit screen time but she seems to be in a hole as far as having any games or movies she wants to do. Thankfully she’s got into painting so yay!
  5. That’s funny because that’s exactly what we did! Thanks for reminding me that it’s ok to be bored. He has Lego, snap circuits, nerf. He had a friend over for two days, went to a friend’s yesterday, had one tennis lesson, church, and we did an art class. But yeah… I do feel like I’ve never quite figured out any teen friendly outdoor stuff for here. Most farm kids get into motor bikes etc but mine don’t seem that interested. (Oldest has outgrown it and youngest is scared of it which is fine).
  6. At the hospital in Africa where I grew up, they made their own version of gatoraid for the patients. Water boiled with salt and sugar. When your electrolytes are off or your blood pressure is down, or you just generally feel a malaise, they would give their mixture to. Salt is not poison if you need it. If you have high blood pressure and you eats tons of salt, then, yes, but salt has been used since the Dawn of time. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5103567/#:~:text=On the other hand%2C the,and secretion of gastric acid.

  9. You should have your sodium levels tested too. Mine are always low and have been dangerously low even with supplementation. I take a salt tablet every day (1 gram) plus I use a lot of table salt and I still run low. My blood pressure is always low to normal even with all the sodium I consume.
  10. My kids are on holidays too and my Dd also started back at school this year. I've had to work every day and so they've been at home alone the whole time, and yes it's screens the whole way. However - I don't really mind. They're out there playing together now and it's nice. They came into my room last night and told me about a D&D campaign based on Dante's inferno, and we brainstormed different characters and how they'd work on redemption throughout the process. (I was raised very religious; my children raised without, and their views on Christianity as mythology are fascinating to me). I do ask them to do some stuff around the house while I'm gone like the washing etc, and I kick them out to go outside when I get home. It is just gorgeous weather here right now.
  11. Dh went and was looking up details afterwards. The cello her father plays in the movie - is *the real* cello that was looted by the Nazi's.
  12. That sounds good enough. Having time to be bored can be a luxury too. Does your son have anything to do? I do feel that there are times in life where people are in a holding pattern and it is not necessary a bad thing, it is just part of life. When my kids don’t have classes, I get them to help with things like decluttering their outgrown clothes from their wardrobe.
  13. In addition to PT exercises, swimming has been the most helpful to me. Could you go to a pool with a friend and trade off children while one of you swims?
  14. I don't think that you need to take responsibility for a meaningful break. So long as she's not on screens all the time, leaving it up to her to work it out is fine, even if she is 'stuck ' at home. Learning to deal with boredom is a skill.
  15. Dd went to school for the first time this year. It’s now holidays and she’s had three days of friend catch ups, a couple of shopping trips etc and today is pretty much the first day we’ve totally stayed home. She wanted to go out and shop and drop some resumes but I asked if we could delay it until Friday because I just want one day at home to clean and catch up on jobs. We don’t have public transport so if I don’t take my kids places they are stuck at home. We do have a farm and pets but it feels like they’ve really outgrown that stuff. Ds has been on Minecraft too much and is now taking an enforced screen break. He’s also bored (he’s still homeschooling). Oldest is still working as he’s in the last year of school and needs to. I feel like everyone here is in a kind of holding pattern… just passing time. I need some ideas for keeping teens busy and engaged with life and need to figure out what I’m doing with myself next. DD does have stuff on every day of the rest of the holidays. She doesn’t really want to play any sports except horse riding which is out of the budget or football which doesn’t work because training is on my work night and matches are on during church. I find it hard to figure out what to do with her. When I was her age I just read books or played with the dog if I was bored. My mom died early in my teens. I think because of that those years were kind of a blur. Plus we didn’t do typical stuff anyway due to religion etc. so I feel kind of clueless about what to do or how to get the kids engaged with something meaningful.
  16. If florastor doesn’t colonize the gut, what should we do?
  17. I have to carry a cello and just down sizes to a Chevy traverse from a 15 passenger van. We have to fold one seat but the other two can stay up. I don't know anything that has enough trunk space with no folding.
  18. All behavioral Health and chronic pain patients have these same barriers. In a lot of respects providers are required to do what they do as a result of legislation and rules written by bureaucrats. Those were written for the “war on drugs,” which was a proxy for a “war on people who take drugs, both legally and not.” Many mental health patients are treated with a great deal of suspicion and fear. I think most practitioners do the best job they can possibly do, but I concede that there are some jerks out there too. I’ve said it before - but the best specialist to see re: medication for ADHD and other mental illnesses is a psychiatrist. After initial screenings, there isn’t much in the way of actual tests. I’ve never heard of anyone who wasn’t being treated for drug addiction to be required to take a drug test by a psychiatrist. Maybe some do, so no promises.
  19. Mil got it in the hospital and came home with it. Fil was not good at decontamination and she suffered with it for a while, so we just assume we are all carrying it now
  20. My Dh taught me to lie down on the floor, put left foot over right knee and pull right knee toward me. Repeat other side. Works well
  21. Not sure what was specifically meant by C.difficile exposure. If it helps, know that most of us are exposed regularly. Approx 3% of healthy adults are carriers (and 8-10% of hospitalized and longterm care residents) , and the spores last a very long time in the environment (months and months). So, anyone who touches things that others have touched is likely to have had regular exposure -- pretty much everyone.
  22. All the younger people I see are vaping. My college kids have also mentioned people vaping everywhere- including sneaking it in class, hallways- last week one was in a private study session- 4 kids- and one started vaping in the very small study room. Both find it annoying and kind of alarming how many are vaping and how often they must do it- not even able to go through class without taking a puff.
  23. Aside from core strength exercises, have you found anything that helps? There's so many different things on YT and I don't have childcare for a PT.
  24. Just back off for a few weeks. Then go from there again. My youngest potty trained before my eldest. She potty trained herself at 2-ish. My eldest was 3 almost 4 before he decided he wanted to be potty trained. I was not prepared to potty train two kids at the same time. Early potty trainers have a lot more accidents. Those who decide to potty train later seem to have less FWIW.
  25. Simply Charlotte Mason has science courses that just use picture books. The picture books are not all YEC but they give heads up where they contradict a YEC point of view and they also pick books that are mostly neutral. They do have some from a YEC viewpoint too. I really like Exploring what God has made and Discovering what God has made.
  26. It could just be that it was fun when it was novel and then she realized it was more fun to keep playing. Potty training is just hard. I've trained four kids and they've all been super different. Funny story, my 4yo had an accident the other day. My 2 yo was sitting next to her and decided to pee on the floor with her...
