I'm so, so sorry. -
Very helpful. Thanks.

We had one for ten years of reliable service. When we no longer needed a minivan, we bought another Toyota. ;)

College graduation What should parents/family wear?

DD's graduation was Friday night, so we missed Coach Bowden. :( -
s/o retirement and COL threads: tell me about living in FL
Lisa in Jax replied to Brilliant's topic in The Chat Board
Consider Jacksonville, too, if you liked Tampa. We've been here since 1991 (with a break to attend law school in VA), and I wouldn't live anywhere else. We *love* Florida. -
College graduation What should parents/family wear?
Lisa in Jax replied to Kendall's topic in The Chat Board
My daughter graduated from FSU last week (WOOT!) and the trend was church/office casual. For adults, there were lots of khakis, button-down shirts, summer dresses, women in slacks, etc. I don't think I saw anyone in a suit, but I did see a few sports coats. College-aged students and younger were in more casual clothing (including jeans). I saw few (if any) t-shirts, so your instinct toward a polo or button-up shirt for your son seems to be a good one. I think your choices above will be just right. :) And congratulations to your son! -
Looking for gift suggestions to take to Germany
Lisa in Jax replied to Trilliums's topic in The Chat Board
We're hosting a German exchange student next year and I sent her a care package of uniquely American candy/treats recently. She really liked the chocolate-covered potato chips and Reese's cups. She didn't like Peeps. ;) If you would like for me to run any ideas past her family to see if they're appropriate, I'd be glad to do so. Lisa -
14 TV shows on the chopping block
Lisa in Jax replied to Mom in High Heels's topic in The Chat Board
Summer Glau was on that Terminator spin-off, "The Sarah Connor Chronicles," which was only on for two seasons. -
Facial recognition is a right brain activity. Right brain weakness is common in autism -- especially Asperger's, and in Nonverbal Learning Disability. So, IMO, it's very possible that your son's problems with facial recognition are completely understandable, given his autism.

DD's boyfriend called me Mrs. LastName for the first year (when he was still in HS). He's been given permission to call me by my first name, but I've found that he calls me "Miss Lisa" more than he actually calls me Lisa. I think he still feels a bit odd calling me by my first name. ;)

14 TV shows on the chopping block
Lisa in Jax replied to Mom in High Heels's topic in The Chat Board
I really like Almost Human and Intelligence. I'll be sad to see them go. I've watched the Mentalist from season one, and I'll be disappointed if they can it, but I'd have to agree that it has jumped the track lately. It's a great show when Lisbon and Jane are working together. I'm not sure why they've spun off in another direction. -
Can i have a large kitchen island with seating?
Lisa in Jax replied to MamaBearTeacher's topic in The Chat Board
You need at least 14 feet width to have an island, so you do seem to have space. The issue, then, is whether you can move the main items (sink/stove/oven/fridge/dw) around in a way that works for your family. This website may be helpful for some of the things you're trying to envision: http://starcraftcustombuilders.com/kitchen.design.rules.htm I used that one a lot when I was trying to design our new kitchen layout. Here's another that may help: http://hgrm.sndimg.com/HGRM/2011/09/09/Kitchen-Island-Checklist-100.pdf Also, go to ths.gardenweb.com/forums/kitchbath/ and upload a drawing on graph paper to show what you've got and what's been suggested. The people there are very helpful in critiquing/tweaking layouts! -
"Son of a big-eared..." "Crappy-doodles" "Frell" "God Bless America!" "Jiminy Crickets" "Kyarn" (a FIL original) "Chingaletta" (a FIL adaptation)

My son doesn't have celiac disease, but he is gluten intolerant. "On" gluten, he's all those ("unhappy, mean, and difficult") as well as hyper, loud, clumsy and angry. His sleep suffers, his bathroom *reeks,* and he's just hard to deal with. Nothing makes him happy; the smallest disappointments make him livid. When he's off gluten entirely, it's like he is a different child: funny, calmer, happy. Normal. FWIW, he may have a bit of a withdrawal period during which he is like a drug addict -- achey, grumpy, irritable. It gets better if you stick with it (and if he doesn't sneak gluten). HIH, Lisa
