  1. I LOVED RS!!! I recommend it to everyone I know. I have 2 boys that went from B-E. I started in B because it's a complete repeat of A with a little more added in. I think A is kind of a waste of time. My boys went to Singapore math after they finished E for a few years and now my 8th grader is finishing geometry and my 6th grader is finishing algebra. They are really good at math and I know that the foundation they got with RS is a big part of that. They can do mental math so much better than I can because that is how RS teaches. It does take a bit more time than handing them a workbook, but we had so much fun playing the games....they still talk about some of the card games we used to play. Karie
  2. I'm an idiot. I found it! Duh! My next question should be, how do I delete stupid questions? :glare:
  3. I posted this on another board, but haven't received any answers. I'm thinking one of you will respond pretty quickly. On the old board, I just clicked on a link at the right. On this new board, I can't figure out where to do this. Please help!! Thanks!
  4. How do I search a forum? Can't figure out where to post a keyword.
  5. It's been awhile since I've been on here and I can't figure this out. I tried posting this question on another forum and it didn't show up. Totally confused!
  6. My son enjoys economics and business. He's done a course on economics, and now I'm looking for an introductory book on Marketing for him. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
  7. I've used Story of the World since we started home schooling, but SOTW 1 is too young at this point for my 7th grader. Please list any suggestions you might have for Ancient History-if you have a schedule, feel free to post that as well :001_smile: I appreciate the help!
  8. My son started Algebra in 6th grade and finished in the fall of his 7th grade year. He did really well and understood it. I was concerned about starting geometry because sometimes a child needs more mental maturity to handle it. We started off doing Jacob's geometry back in November and went through April. We took a 3 week break for some other things and weren't able to keep up with it. After 3 weeks, we started again and he declared that all 6 chapters of geometry made no sense to him and he was confused. I decided to give Teaching Textbooks geometry a try because it's a bit easier. He did the first 2 chapters just fine and as soon as we hit chapter 3 with doing proofs, he has melted. He says it makes no sense! I can't just skip math for a year until he matures!! He is starting 8th grade. I don't really know where to go with this situation. Ugh...what to do??? Any thoughts?
  9. I agree with the above posters as well. We did LL7 in 6th grade and LL8 in 7th grade. For this coming 8th grade, my son wants to do Literary Lessons from Lord of the Rings. We'll do WttW for 9th grade.
  10. I thought I had bookmarked this, but I can't find it. This person has free notebook covers that she has made, including the 4 years of the history cycle, which is what I'm looking for. If you could reply with the website, i would be so grateful!! Thanks! NEVER MIND! I FINALLY FOUND IT!
  11. I'm trying to compile a list of books I want my boys to read this coming year for 6th and 8th grade. We are doing Modern History this year (1850-present). I've checked out Sonlight, Winter Promise, Veritas, etc, but I'm curious what book lists you have used for this time period and for this middle school age group. Thanks!
  12. I had great plans to do Apologia Elementary Physics and Chemistry this coming year with my 6th grader, but since it's not coming out til next year, that won't work. We've used all the other Apologia books, too. So, any thoughts/suggestions on what to do next? I picked up an ABeka 6th grade student book for next to nothing and have looked through that, but I'm not sure exactly how to use it since I don't have any of the tests, worksheets, etc. I can't spend a lot of money, either, as dh is unemployed right now. Is there a way to salvage the Abeka book, or is there something else out there that might be a good idea to use that I've overlooked? I tried Elemental Science this year and it didn't go over well, so I don't want to go down that path. My son isn't too into science, so I'm wondering if we just spend a year reading science and then move into Apologia General (my older son did that this year).
  13. So, let me give you all an update: After a LOT of talking with our son, we decided upon some appropriate disciplinary measures for him. He has been very good about it and even said that while he doesn't like the things we've implemented, he completely understands. Dh had a good conversation with this girl's father. Between the two of them, they decided that cutting them from each other completely might not be the best idea as that could cause more problems. Since they've never met face to face, both dads thought it a good idea to let them meet but under controlled conditions with parents present. We don't want our son dating until he is in a position to handle a serious relationship with a girl who could potentially be his future wife. We've talked with him about if he gives a piece of his heart to a girl who probably won't be his wife, that's a piece of his heart that won't go to his future wife. So, for now, his ability to communicate to anyone whenever he wants has been squashed. And, any meetings with this young gal will be with parents present in some fashion. While my initial reaction was to go off the deep end and restrict, restrict, restrict, I've realized that he's growing up and I have to communicate with him differently than in the past. It feels like I lost my little boy overnight :(
