Which Life of Fred would you recommend?
rockermom replied to rockermom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Yeah, I had read his views. According to ability (but not age), I should order Fractions. I wish someone nearby used LoF. This is a rural town and homeschoolers are scarce. I may just wait a bit and then order Fractions. Thanks! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk -

Which Life of Fred book would you recommend I get for a 9 year old (4th grader) whose main math is Saxon 6/5? He completed Apples through Dogs a while ago. Does he really need to pick back up with Edgewood, or can he jump in with Kidneys?

Oh, Rosie! I don't even know how to tell you how sorry I am. My heart aches for you and your family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Second Grade Art Suggestions (can't break the bank)
rockermom replied to rockermom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
OOH! Thank you, Erica! I love the looks of that (and want to cuddle the price). I think I could totally make that work. -
Supplement here... We use Usborne World History as our spine and read the corresponding chapters in SOTW. We don't have the AG, but use Pinterest and other resources for projects. I create notebooking pages and copywork/vocabulary sheets for each week. It seems to be working and my son enjoys history.

Second Grade Art Suggestions (can't break the bank)
rockermom posted a topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Wow! It's been a while since I started a topic around here. I fear this won't be eloquent due to frequent interruptions. :) We have been using (and loving) the Usborne Art Treasury for our more involved art projects. We love seeing the full color original art in the book and reading about the piece and the artist, then doing the project. I have been looking for something to help us continue in this way, but most things I've researched have fell short in some way or another (or are simply out of our price range.. which is microscopic). Does anyone know of a similar book to the Usborne Art Treasury that we could use next year? -
For some reason, it tells me that I'm not allowed to access this feature... that I must have at least one post on the forum to be granted access. Huh. That's weird.

Mine's up, but we are still in "summer school" mode since we won't start our year until after Labor Day. Weekly Wrap-Up: Summer Edition #10

I was, until bad luck found our automobiles. Both cars are giving us trouble. I don't want us to be stuck in the house all day while DH is at work. DS was excited to try co-op, Awana and soccer this fall. He really wants some friends. I think I'll be more excited when (and if) we get the cars fixed. -
Socialization issues for homeschooled kids?
rockermom replied to TryingHardMom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
It is a tiny concern for me, because I am homeschooling an only (for all intents and purposes... my stepson lives with his own mother). My son is an exuberant extrovert with a vivid imagination who isn't afraid to speak his mind. He has no friends who aren't related to him. (He doesn't see his cousins very often.) We have recently joined our local homeschool group and started going to park days. He wants to play soccer this fall and try co-op. Awana may be in the plan, as well. I don't want to be his only friend. He wants friends so badly it breaks this momma's heart (but not enough to enroll him in the local school). He is constantly telling me that he will "make a friend" whenever we go somewhere.
