East Coast Sue
I'm looking for a book that would be useful for high school students who want to learn more about Greek history, geography, and politics. The students are reading Greek literature and would find it helpful to get background information on this time period. Thank you for your recommendations!!! Laura Corin
It is designed for middle school, but you might like to look at Suzanne Strauss Art's Ancient Greece book. I have used the Ancient China ones and like them. An alternative is the PBS series called The Greeks - I learned a lot from it about history and culture. mcconnellboys
My older son took a college course in Greek history and culture a couple of years ago and two of the books they used were: The Ancient Greeks, Chester G. Starr and Art and Experience in Classical Greece, J.J. Pollitt. I don't know that you'd need the latter, as it deals mainly with the development of Greek art during the Classical period (although the development of the art is related back to the social and cultural history). But the Starr book does cover geography and politics, as well as history, so it should probably suffice.
