For anyone interested in Tindall's America as a high school spine....

Recommended Posts

For folks who might be interested in using Tindall's America: A Narrative History as a spine, I though I would post the following. Of course TWTM offers up a simpler way to approach this text. If you decide to use the book's model, you don't need all of the extra bits, but I thought that I would let you know what I've uncovered as I've been using this text:

It's a college-level text, but very readable. It is currently in its 7th edition. Because it's a college-level text the current edition can be pricey, but older editions can usually be found used for a lot less money. (Check out half.com)

You can look at the 7th edition here:

The brief edition is recommended at the high school level.

The printed study guides are well done. Sample outlines, timeline lists, people and events to cover, vocabulary words, multiple choices and true/false questions, and suggested essay topics.

Study Guide

Charles Eagles, University of Mississippi

Volume 1: ISBN-10: 0-393-92947-7 • ISBN-13 978-0-393-92947-7

Volume 2: ISBN-10: 0-393-92985-X • ISBN-13 978-0-393-92985-0

And the web site has a host of extra goodies too - map worksheets, vocab flashcards, tons of options for each chapter.

Pair this up with free Hippo Campus Lectures:

AND/or link the topics to The Teaching Company's History of the United States if you can grab it on sale.

...and you have a ton of Read, Think, Write options. :001_smile:

Peace,

Janice
