I have one child I think is suited to be an entrepreneur.

Recommended Posts

Rose,

I have a daughter who is destined to be an entrepreneur. Our high school plans include economics, government (we're doing a semester of American government followed by a semester of comparative government), personal finance, history, grammar, and composition. These are pretty much subjects that everyone covers, but I feel are especially important for business owners.

I have at least two that will be headed for a business career of some kind (just like dad). I would make sure they have a grasp of how economics/business works. We do a typical college prep homeschool high school, but they also go to work occasionally with their dad and he talks to them about how the business works all the time. He made my 12yo daughter give him a formal business plan when she wanted to borrow money from him to start an internet business.

It'll give me some things to think about as we enter the high school years. It's kind of funny. A few years ago I was wondering if it would be easy to tell what careers my children would be slanted to. Now they're finishing Grade 7 and I am getting some pretty clear ideas of their talents and strengths. I know this can all change but I really want to guide them and structure their learning towards what they will likely end up doing.

Thanks for these suggestions. I'm open to more.

My dh is self-employed and my ds is bent his way. Not only would I look at business skills but I would include etiquette (including cultural etiquette), logic, psychology, something to build interpersonal skills, good foundation in writing, and debate.
