abreakfromlife
I finally decided on a latin curriculum....*finally*!! I've been going back and forth forever between doing Latina Christiana or LFC next year.....I had finally decided on LFC and looked in their catalog last night to look at everything I would need to order, and I ended up being really turned off......went back to questioning and reading more latin threads again, lol, and ended up deciding on LC. In the LFC catalog, one of the little tags describing why it's such a good program says 'Yearly revision of each text based on critical feedback of our customers'. um, what? If I'm buying a textbook, especially in a hard subject like Latin, I expect it to already be good, correct, and done............I don't expect there to be things wrong that they'll be correcting each year, based on customer reviews......... I understand that probably every curriculum has minor errors, but to advertise that you are revising every year.......it seems like that shows a lack of confidence in your product. That's not the only reason I'm not buying it, but it is a pretty high one, actually. I was just really surprised.
Julie in GA
Not only that, but you'd have trouble re-selling your books and/or using your old books with new workbooks (with your younger children later).
Ali in OR
I think there are problems with many if not most new curricula the first year they come out. LFC is established at this point, and the early mistakes have been corrected. And I appreciate that a company DOES correct errors instead of letting them sit there. But I don't think they have printed new texts every year. We've been very pleased with LFC--it's easy to use, mistakes have been fixed, it's structured in a way that works well for my brain and dd's, and the DVD makes it very fun for my dds. Latin has been one of their favorite subjects this year. I made the decision based on reviewing samples for several companies and thinking long and hard about which fit the way we learn. LFC has been a great choice for us.
Faithr
What Ali said! We love LfC here! I am embarrassed to say how many Latin curricula we've tried and LfC suits us to a T.
abreakfromlife
ahhhhhh stop! :D You're going to make me reconsider again  I knew about the errors from their first year or whatever and that they had changed it...........it just seems really strange to advertise that they are apparently still going to do that. How much more needs to be changed? Mom2GirlsTX
I love LFC! We bought it early on and then it was revised and we bought the revisions. They are awesome to deal with and it is a very good program that has chosen to correct its early mistakes and not ignore like some programs have. elegantlion
:iagree: with all of the good things about LFC. We have used them this year, Primer A, and I'm getting ready to place my order for Primer B. I even ordered Latin Alive for my own study. IMO I think LFC still suffers from that first year stigma. Errors have been corrected. I think they are pointing that out to help overcome some of the "reputation" they seemed to have gained from that. I have to say from flipping through Latin Alive I can really see how the information learned in Primer A & B are setting the foundation for more in depth studies. Audrey
Looks interesting, but I don't see the info I wanted. Can someone tell me: Is it secular? Does it use classical pronunciation?
Mom2GirlsTX
Audrey, LFC is not secular but pretty pretty close. I opt for secular any time I can and the only thing in LFC is that in the first chapter, there is a quote from John 1:1 (in the beginning was the word). That is the only religious reference that I can think of at all in the LFC A. HTH
phathui5
We will be using Latin for Children Primer A after finishing Prima Latina.
scrapbabe
Audrey, You can choose classical or ecclasiastical. They are both included in the cd/dvd. Smiles, Shalynn

I have wanted to try this but was concerned about how much religious content was in it. If its only a bible verse in the first chapter, then that's awesome. I can handle that. Audrey
Audrey,You can choose classical or ecclasiastical. They are both included in the cd/dvd. Smiles, Shalynn Oh! That's a nice option. FWIW, I learned classical and I can't stand the sound of ecclesiatic, but dh is a former Catholic who remembers Latin mass. He thinks classical sounds awful.

Is it inductive or deductive in approach? How much reading? How much grammar? Oh, how I wish I could have a copy in hand!
scrapbabe
LFC is very heavy in grammar and vocabulary. There isn't any reading until the 17th lesson when it incorporates a history reader. We aren't that far yet. There is a lot of chanting to help remember the grammar and the vocabulary, which I love! Also lots of fun worksheets (if you buy the activity book) that give lots of practice. We just started a business about 11 months ago, so latin this year has been very hit and miss. We are only on lesson 7 in the book. But we still remember all of the grammar and more than 90% of the vocabulary because of the chants. So, it makes it easy to pick up and use again even if we've had a prolonged break from it. HTH Smiles, Shalynn
