Computer based high school programs?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a true suggestion, but I'll tell you our experience. Dd#1 did 2 classes through FLVS which is school on-line. It took lots of on-line time, which since we have 1 internet computer was very inconvenient for the rest of us. If she'd been doing a full class load, I don't know if we'd ever gotten on. While you don't have hurricanes to worry about (we were w/o internet for 3 wks after one during her FLVS time) storms can knock you off line & then what?

As to computer based, a friend did SOS totally for her dc 1 yr. The problem w/that was that they all needed their own computers (4 dc=$$$$). Seems like she said it only recognised THE answer, not a right answer, but not exactly the way we said it. We did SOS Geometry w/dd#1 & it was awful. Hopefully they've improved it in the last few years, but then there were no "how we got the answer" anywhere, just the final answer.

We have done online for last six years. She is right, having own comp. dedicated to school is ideal.

Oldest has been doing K12 Icademy, which is wonderful, but expensive. And since it is new, they dont have summer courses which we needed.

Great teacher support.

Youngest will start VP this fall. They have different setup. Icademy is mostly read or print material off computer vs. VP has Webconnect for each class plus texts. This however is much cheaper. VP is a lil newer and is Christian. They are not accredited, yet. But do have a diploma program.

I would always ask for demos and look at each program.

We have tried Apex, rigorous and not expensive, but no diploma. We have tried Keystone, no teacher support and no deadlines. All other schools have deadlines and all work is graded by teachers.

Hope I helped.
