Julie of KY
Have any of you done a chemistry lab at home? I've looked at the BJU lab and some others. I can buy the supplies and I have the background to teach a lab, but I was wondering what you've used. Julie
Orthodox6
We used "The Spectrum" from Beginnings Publishing. My dh team-taught the course with a friend to one of our sons teamed with two of the friend's sons. It was so much fun doing this as a group course ! Liza Q
We also used Spectrum. The lab kit was awesome! I should mention my daughter did not do well with this course; it was the only C on her transcript :glare: But I do not think it had anything to do with the program. She struggled with the math, got very discouraged and then just did poor work for most of the year. I am considering using it again with my next daughter if I can find someone to help us out - another Mom in our HS group, hopefully.

Orthodox6
Liza, Do you think the course would go better if you also used the mathematics review workbook that the company sells for students who need some strengthening in the pertinent math topics? I haven't seen it, but it sounded like a helpful product. Antonia We also used Spectrum. The lab kit was awesome! Julie of KY
Thanks for the information. It looks like the book Illustrated Guide to Home Chemistry Experiments: All Lab, No Lecture and homechemlab.com are just what I'm looking for. I am surprised that I haven't ever come across it myself in all my looking. Julie
wimseycat
My son is in Honors Chemistry right now and we are using the K12 curriculum. Each unit has a lab and they have very good supplies. Our only problem is that my son has found some mistakes on a few of the tests. Annika
