University of Dallas scholarships

Hi all,

My 18 yo has been accepted into the University of Dallas. UD is a Catholic (though non Catholics go there as well!) university that has a classics core. They automatically offer scholarships! My dd just got a $56,000 scholarship which is $14,000 per year. Woohoo! Tuition, room and board are about 35,000 so that brings costs down to $21,000.

Just thought I'd share!

Congratulations on her excellent scholarship, too.

The second of my children to graduate from UD will graduate in a few short weeks. Both of them have gained a broad liberal arts education that will be an asset to them no matter where life leads them. The large core curriculum insures that students gain experience with a wide variety of disciplines and helps them to become well-rounded individuals. I can't say enough good about UD's education.

For students who may be interested in UD, but would like some experience before committing to attending for four years, their summer programs in Rome for high school students are excellent: Shakespeare in Italy (http://www.udallas.edu/travel/italy.cfm) and Latin in Rome (http://www.udallas.edu/travel/latin.cfm) They also have a two-week college preparatory program called Arete designed by Dr. Louise Cowan which is held on the campus in Irving.

Hey LaJuana! It is I, Faith, who used to frequent the TAH list! I cut back way back on internet time and haven't visited there for a long time! I remembered that your daughter went to UD; in fact, that was the first time I had ever heard of it. My dd's best friend who is a year older than her is attending UD now so my dd visited her there and really liked it. I am so, so pleased!

To answer the other questions, yes dd really wants to go there and she wants to major in Theology. We are absolutely thrilled here! Can you tell????

Congrats!! UD is on dd's (very) short list - the idea of continuing with classical is very attractive to her (not going to Rome in high school though - we went as a family about 6 years ago :))

We live in the DFW area and dh works very close to UD so please let me know if I can ever do anything :)

My dd is just finishing her first year at U of D. She graduated a year early and spent this year there instead of having a senior year at home. It has been an amazing experience for her. I do want to warn you that the tuition has increased rather dramatically for this year and also will again for this coming fall. I hope it slows down, because the scholarships start to feel smaller and smaller when the tuition jumps 2 to 3 K every year. Also, the sophomore year with the Rome semester will be more expensive. Just FYI!

I'm missing her so much right now and am impatiently counting the days until we go get her especially amid flu worries.

My dd is longing for that semester in Rome! I wonder if she met your dd on her visits to U of D? She's been there twice and hung out with a lot of kids.

I too hope the tuition does not keep increasing at such a frightening rate! My dh was talking to the finance guys at the parent orientation dinner. He spent a long time with them and they told him all about building costs, etc.

Faithr,

My dd has had two prospective students stay with her this year. She loved having them. The Rome semester is very exciting!

They are in process of building a new dorm, but the housing shortage is already upon them. I'm sure they have a plan. The school continues to grow despite the economy. And I love talking to my dd about what she is learning and doing. The education is vastly different than the one I had! I am kinda jealous to tell you the truth! LOL!

Best wishes to you and your dd!
