Question for Martha in NM or anyone else who has finished Videotext Algebra

Recommended Posts

What did you do next? My son finished the full Algebra course last year, and has done the first 3 modules of Geometry this year. (I'm not going to bother buying module D, since I doubt I can get it used, and there's no sign of when Modules E & F will be available.) So now we're using ALEKS to finish Geometry, but I REALLY don't know what to do next year for some kind of trig/precalculus course.

I'd love to know what others who've done well with VT are finding to use for trig/precalculus and how well it's working.

Thanks for any input!

My son went to a Christian boarding school after he finished VT, and did Geometry last year, and Pre-Calc this year. He did very well in both classes, so I know he gained a great knowledge base with VT. However, that doesn't answer your question. Since he took the classes at the school, and got the work done there, he never brought the books home, so I am not sure what they used. Sorry!

My son's schedule allowed him to finish VT Geometry Module D as well as the currently available sections of the pre-production version of Module E. The folks at VT have gone out of their way to help us work our schedule into their publication schedule.

We opted to go on to community college math for the next step. However, my dh (engineer) did help us round things off with a brief look at trig for about six-eight weeks after we'd exhausted the VT Geometry lessons. He and ds covered the topics proposed for Module F using "homemade" lessons.

If ds had not been ready for CC we'd have gone with Chalkdust as the next step.

HTH,

Martha

It never occurred to me to contact VT about the problem of finishing the course... live & learn, I guess.

We're looking at Chalkdust, The Potter's School, who now has a 1 year Precalc in addition to that two year option, and Scholar's Online. Decisions, decisions!

Thanks so much for your input.
