Ibbygirl
THANK YOU!! ALOT!! ;) :D Sorry. I just couldn't resist. hehe I'm guessing you would need several pounds. maybe 20 pounds or so??
LaxMom
I would estimate 1/4 lb per person, plus a little extra if there might be seconds. So.... 12.5 lbs to start, and maybe add a couple?
Blueridge
Wow, what a cooking project! When I buy a leaner ground beef, I can get 5 pretty well-filled sloppy joe burgers So I would find a good meat sale and get 10 pounds. You might consider stretching it even further with a bit of grated potato, ground up beans, or some oats. Ginger
MamaT
Well, I use about 2 1/2 lbs. to feed 10 people and usually have leftovers. I would think 10 lbs. would probably be enough, but would probably use 12-13 just to be sure.
JudoMom
Well if they eat about 1/4 a pound of meat on the sloppy joe then 1/4 pound times 50. And it depends on the people. edited to add: You might want to add a little more if you assume some will eat more than one. I was thinking the same thing. About 1/4 pound/person with a bit extra for good measure, so 15 pounds. This is assuming it's a mix of adults and children, and not all adults. Cranberry
add a few pounds to your estimate and freeze the leftovers in smaller batches for nights you don't feel like cooking! :)
AudreyTN
Thank you all! My husband leads a youth ministry at church and we (by that I mean *I*) are making sloppy joes this month. Last month was Pizza. We're only offering one sandwich at a time and will have potato chips. 50 is an overestimation.
Claire in NM
use 5 pounds for 25 people, so I guess that means 10 pounds! Claire in NM
OnTheBrink
I've done sloppy joes for 150, and I used 40 lbs of meat, which allowed some to come back for seconds. So, I would agree with whomever said 15 lbs.
