It was so hard to just drop her off and drive away.....I'm a nervous wreck!! And will probably continue to be so until we get her results. I think all homeschool moms feel the pressure of this test, as we have such a vested interest. It's a reflection on all that we have done and taught. And it determines, to a large extent, their future. And for me, with this dd especially......she has been at home with me for always and forever: my totally homeschooled dc. (my oldest went to ps through most of 4th grade and my middle did preschool and K in the ps) AND she is my last. My baby. This is so hard. Thankfully, there were some ps teachers who go to our church helping out there today. He had taken the PSAT there, but there were only a handful of students taking it. When we pulled up today to the high school there were already @ 150 students in line. Laura K (NC) Posted April 4, 2009 Share Posted April 4, 2009 A lot of other homeschoolers he knew were taking it at the same public school, so that helped with the stress some. He's been taking a lot of practice tests, and that helped, and we got there really early (so unlike us!) and that helped a bit too. I wasn't stressed at all because as I told him, I don't care how he does, his goal is just to finish and experience the test this year. Next year, his junior year, will be more important! Hilary Posted April 4, 2009 Share Posted April 4, 2009 My youngest, the ninth grader, took it today for the first time. I was really surprised at how well it went. We have had great difficulty getting him out of bed in the morning for several months now. Thankfully, my DH and I have found some techniques that seem to be working well, and so even though my son had to get up at 6:30, he got to the test on time. He also has OCD and is currently off his medication, but didn't seem to get unduly stressed. I have been having him work in practice books for a few months, so the actual test didn't seem to present a big problem. Neither of my older kids took the ACT in ninth grade, but I decided that it would be a good alternative to the Stanford achievement test that our homeschool group gives. That's three mornings of testing, versus the one morning for the ACT, and I think the ACT scores will be more meaningful if we pursue outside classes. Good luck to everyone who took it today! Thankfully, a best buddy was in the same room - they assign rooms alphabetically.
