EDITED: (SEE POST 6)

I need assistance with my Korean Language study for the kids and myself. I have to step it up and fast because we are heading to Korean to visit family in June and we will be there for 2 months. DH is already there and so the constant Korean dialect in the home is gone. I don't want to write a long post on why I need outside and can't turn to his family - I'll leave that for another time:)

So is there anyone that knows Korean???? We know sentence structure and alphabet, numbers but having issues. I have the Rosetta Stone for me and the kids but I am not happy with the results. Can someone help or know where I can go to get help on pronouncing aspirated letters?

EDITED TO: ask for any penpal sites or suggestion on finding someone to practice speaking with??(see post #6)

These courses were developed in the 40s and 50s for military personnel. They are very thorough with lots and lots of grammar and drill, according to the

I saw. The weaknesses of the program, according to the reviewer, is that it is very dry, and the accent on the audio isn't very good. It sounds like you have the accent covered, though!

The reviewer says he uses the course to drill selected areas of weakness. It sounds like it could be useful for you in the same way.

He has reviews of other programs at this link. If that program won't work for you, perhaps another one would work better.

That's just it! I don't have the accent. For some reason I can't get the aspirated letters to sound right. It all comes out the same. The family her in america get mad and tells me to just be quiet  I need :bigear: the difference in the sound of the aspirated letters like ppali wa which just comes out pa lee wah for me. No help with the pronounciation or family issues here, sorry.

Just wanted to mention that I was very dissatisfied with RS to begin with and now that dd9 is well into the upper level, it is actually starting to help, mainly with vocab and confidence. That probably won't help you much for this summer, but it might be worth it for the long term.

By the way, I think it's great that your kids do English, Korean and Japanese and that you're trying so hard yourself. Even though you're up against a perfectionist family (nation?), it sounds like you're doing extremly well!!:001_smile:

Penpal sites or conversation practice sites????? This would help. My SIL said that my kid are picking up my voice and no one back home will understand a word. She stated this is why people should marry same:glare: I am really trying here but my japanese/english interferes, I want them to learn Koraen because they would heard/read/speak it way more then japanese.

Does anyone know where we can get a korean partner/penpal to practice speaking with????

Hey, I'm guessing thru the thread that you are japanese? or have some japanese background and married? korean? My husband and I are korean. Although I was born there, I moved when I was 3 so my korean is not the greatest. My husband is fluent as he grew up and left Korea as an adult. We are wanting to teach our children French (I speak french) and Korean.

If you find a good program let me know!

You're surrounded by such a critical crowd, that I wanted to chip in once more.

Even if you can't find a way to improve your kids pronounciation before the summer, and even IF nobody will understand them there (I really, really doubt that one!), they will pick up the right pronounciation in no time! My kids pick up German from children their age so fast when we are there, that I can hear a difference with 2-3 days. As long as there's something to work with (and your's know some), children build on it fast.

So try to not worry too much!

One more thought, couldn't they sype with their dad? That would be helpful in more than one way.

God bless

Try http://www.livemocha.com. I'm working on my German and Japanese, but haven't used the chat features yet. I have submitted audio though for the community to review.

I agree. And I am sorry you're facing such criticism!
