hitech
What is a good Latin program to start a 12 yr old boy? Suzanne
C_l_e_0..Q_c
How good is his grammar foundation in English? I'd start a 12 yo with Henle right away.
EKS
I wanted to ease my son into Latin (this was when he was 11) and we used Getting Started with Latin with great success. After a frustrating experience with Latin Prep (I know there are those who love it but it didn't work for us) we moved to So You Really Want to Learn Latin and it has been fabulous. Very straightforward like GSWL.
abbeyej
I'm a huge fan of Galore Park's Latin Prep. It's written directly to the student, involves clear, concise (but not watered down) grammar instruction, lots and lots of translation and practice, and a wonderful dry (very British) wit that has the kids giggling every few lessons (and their teacher more often than that!)... You can see all the material at GalorePark.co.uk and you can order (free shipping anywhere) from bookdepository.co.uk... It's absolutely my favorite thing that I've seen for this age group. Books 1 and 2 together equal just a little bit more than 1 high school Latin credit in the US (in terms of language -- you would want to add in just a bit more about Roman history/culture/geography).
