ga girl
Can I count Latin as my daughter's English credit? She'll also be taking a lit. course.
klmama
A couple of thoughts... Does your state require "English" credit or is it called "Language Arts?" If LA, I think you could. I know my high school considered my foreign language courses as part of LA credits. As far as counting it as "English," I think you might be able to, provided you put significant focus on the English vocabulary that is related to the Latin she is studying. In college I took such a vocabulary development course from the English department. You could call the course "Latin for Vocabulary Building." However, if you did that, colleges might not accept it for Latin credit on a transcript. You'd have to decide which is more important. ga girl
Here's the problem: we move quite a bit for my husband's job. This next year she'll be taking Latin (2nd year), Lightning Lit, Spanish 3, Alg 2, history, biology & Science roots. I hate to add in Eng. grammar too! Don't most schools focus on lit. once in upper grades, as opposed to grammar?

Don't most schools focus on lit. once in upper grades, as opposed to grammar? Yes, I think they do. My senior only took a little grammar in 9th grade. After that, his English credit was the literature courses that he did. As part of the lit. courses, he did a substantial amount of writing. IMHO, you don't need a separate grammar course in high school. I sent course descriptions to the colleges he's applied to, and none of them have commented on the absence of grammar in his program after 9th grade. If you're asking if she needs a separate English grammar course, I'd say no.
