C_l_e_0..Q_c
My 11yo is having great conversations with his dad about C++ (a programming language, the one DH uses daily at work). Thankfully, I'm a software engineer, so I can follow their conversations, but I never expected we'd have them so quickly! And DS is completely immersed in C++ now! Gotta love that Asperger trait... Nan in Mass
I spent an hour in the car yesterday trying to explain in general terms how one could make a robot learn something, with my son saying the whole time that that was all very well, but I wasn't telling him how to actually do it, only to find at the end of the conversation that my son had a specific problem in mind. If I had known that from the beginning the conversation would have been a good deal shorter, and I could have told him the actually part. All I had to do was mention toggle switches, markers, files, and loops and he got it. On the other hand, I suspect he deliberately didn't tell me because he was fishing for ideas and was bored and was more interested in exploring than solving. So far, his father and I have been able to come up with multiple possible solutions to his how-do-I-do this's or his I-need-something-that-does-thats, but there is only but so much longer that I'm actually going to be helpful to him, I think. Enjoy being able to keep up while it lasts LOL. We may have to go back to work to continue to be useful GRIN. -Nan PS Let me know if your son is now permanantly lost in the computer world, or if he dabbles and moves on. C_l_e_0..Q_c
My husband would also be considered a senior programmer. His actual title is 'software architect' . At least it was last time I checked. His company has a knack for changing titles without changing job descriptions. I was also a senior programmer when I left my job to stay home. So I guess it's in our blood :) DS is still happily playing with C++. He's currently on the Mac though. I have to move him to Windows. (DH and I have this ongoing battle about the two platforms )
