sharonTennessee
Anne, You don't know me since I'm usually a lurker rather than a poster, but I just wanted to thank you for a message you posted last year. Someone was asking about writing opportunities and you gave a list of suggestions. One of those was the Written and Illustrated By contest. My daughter entered it, and we just found out today that she was selected as one of the top 10 finalists out of 3,000 entries in her age division. Needless to say, we're very excited and she's planning to try again this year. Thanks so much for telling us about this contest! Kareni
Sharon, Congratulations to your daughter! My teen entered the contest when she was in 9th grade. She made a Latin alphabet book. She did not make it to the finals; however, she has hopes of publishing her book one day. (Not to mention it made a nice mention on her college applications as an extracurricular activity!) FloridaLisa
Wow! Congratulations . . . that is very exciting! Anne/PA isn't on the boards as much anymore as they have moved to Turkey, so you may want to send her a PM that would go to her e-mail and alert her of your good news. Great job -- Lisa
Anne/Ankara
Sharon, that is wonderful news! I'm so glad to hear about that. Once you get bitten by the writing bug, there is no stopping some kids. That is terrific news! My 12 year old dd just learned she is in the "maybe" category (again!) by Stone Soup Magazine, for a story that she did recently. I hope it does go through for her this time, since that is a very prestigious children's literature magazine. And Imagine Magazine said they accepted her precis for an article on "Life in an International School," which will be a feature article for their magazine. Great! Here is the link to that one: http://cty.jhu.edu/imagine. They run fiction contests quite regularly, (which we have won) so it is definitely do-able. Also, don't forget Creative Kids, at http://www.prufrock.com/client/client_pages/prufrock_jm_createkids.cfm. They also publish kid's work fairly readily-- we've had several recent pieces there.
