Not to be confused with horse chestnuts, which are poisonous, and drop mace-like bombs on people who happen under their branches in the fall. Bus stops, iin my city, are often situated on corners directly under horse chestnuts trees. Hazelnuts, I believe, are the ones no one wants in the can of mixed nuts, the ones you only eat if there are no cashews left. Could be wrong on that one, though. I was raised on the East coast and we called hazelnuts, filberts and well, chestnuts are totally different. Chestnuts are much bigger, darker brown, and softer (before roasting).
