What the hack is the difference between a hazelnut and a chestnut?

Recommended Posts

Chestnuts roast on an open fire and stink to high heaven. Not to be confused with horse chestnuts, which are poisonous, and drop mace-like bombs on people who happen under their branches in the fall. Bus stops, iin my city, are often situated on corners directly under horse chestnuts trees. Hazelnuts, I believe, are the ones no one wants in the can of mixed nuts, the ones you only eat if there are no cashews left. Could be wrong on that one, though.

Hazelnuts/filberts taste yummy and chestnuts taste blechy, of course!

(Eating roasted chestnuts for the first time was a huge disapointment. All my life I'd heard about them and thought they'd be tasty. Nope.)

Jack Frost nipping at your nose doesn't feel as great in real life as it sounds in the song, either.
