How do you convert girls' shoe sizes to womens'?

Recommended Posts

Just curious-Where are you finding a 5.5 shoe in girls? Most girls shoes end at size 4.5. A girls size 4 shoe is normally equivalent to a size 6 shoe in womens. I use to work in a shoe store. When there was a girl wearing a 4, I would show their mom they could wear a size 6 in womens. This opened up a lot of new shoes for which the moms were normally grateful because they were having problems with the small selection of shoes in that size.

I've never saw a size 5.5 girls shoe when I worked in the shoe store. 5.5 was a ladies size and was smaller that a 4 girls shoe. A 5.5 womens shoe was normally equivalent to a 3.5 in girls shoes.

I would have your dd try on a size 6 in womens.

Are you talking about children's unisex tennis shoes? If so, they are boys sizes. Boys shoes sizes do come in 5.5. If you are talking about tennis shoes, I would defiantly have my dc try on shoes before you buy. Tennis shoes tend to run smaller than other shoes.

Are they European shoe sizes? If so, they are totally different from American sizes and you would defiantly need to try them on.

dd was measured as a girls 6 recently. we were told she could get kid shoes or get a woman's 6. So we went looking at the running store for athletic shoes that small and Sure enough the running store said 6-6.5 but recommended a 7 for running and the 6 for regular shoes.

A girl's 6 is not a woman's 6.

A girl's/youth/child's 6 is a women's 7.5 to 8. The kid's sizes are often wider and have a squarer toe box than the women's. Girls switch over to women's sizes when their foot begins to mature, and that happens earlier for girls than boys, who really don't ever change foot shape all that much. Large children have different shape feet than small women.

Yes, people often wear a larger size in running shoes that regular shoes, but not always. It depends on the foot shape and the brand and type of running shoe.

Can you tell I come from a family that has sold shoes for 3 generations?
