s/o: genealogy thread

Isn't this cool? Neesek and I have discovered that her relatives and mine both lived in New Haven in the 1600s, and apparently one of her relatives and my 8x great-uncle were surveyors together! And one of her relatives was killed in a battle in the revolutionary war that one of my relatives was injured in.

That is really neat! I know I have some Balzers in CT in the early/mid 1800s. I don't know the spouses names yet.

 

I love learning about people from long ago. And it brings history alive too.

 

You do have to be careful. Somehow, yesterday, I ended up marrying a guy to his aunt which made his grandfather his father in law. I teased hubby about it (it was his side of the family). Well, turns out I did something weird and they didn't really do that (thankfully!). It seemed odd but possible on his side of the family though. He has first cousin marriages!

 

*I* wish that the 1890 census hadn't been destroyed and the 1940 census was available. That would help me A LOT.
